Should BB11 be for Non-smokers only? [OP deleted his post]

For the record, I didn't make this thread. Some twat did and has deleted their opening post.
The post below was the second one of the thread.

I don't see why a potentially brilliant housemate should be told they can't be picked because they smoke.

Smoker or non-smoker, they should all have equal rights.

Agree

MissKittyFantastico 02-08-2009 04:48 PM

Smoking outdoors isn't illegal....yet.

BB is meant to represent all walks of life and all types of people.

So I don't see how they can ban smokers from applying tbh, nor should they.

Twilight 02-08-2009 04:48 PM

No because why should we, Alot of people are smokers so it would be unfair

Chels 02-08-2009 04:48 PM

stoopid thread.
and i do not smoke, it makes me gag.

Prole 02-08-2009 04:52 PM

If you're going to ban smoking, then surely you've got to ban drinking. Oh, and rubbishy food... In fact, why not just send them in on a detox. That'd be fun to watch.

shash 02-08-2009 04:52 PM

it should be just as representative as it is on the outside and have the same rights to be there, if there were none that would not be a fair sampling of the population. the BB smokers are often the most entertaining, but not this year ...

what I do wonder is if they should bring their own fags and tobacco and it not be anything to do with shopping budgets, although I am sure BB enjoys it when nicotine withdrawal sets in and shopping arguments take place.

Jayson 02-08-2009 04:54 PM

Why the hell should it?

Just because we smoke doesn't mean we are scum. Stupid thread.

I also think its unfair how you've deleted your OP to make it look like Jack made this thread.

IsleOfWeather 02-08-2009 04:54 PM

Yes it should

Smoking kills thousands of ignorant fools each year and soon will be banned in the same way we ban adults from ******** in the street.

You could apply the same thing to people who drink excessively though. That kills thousands of people each year. Should BB ban people who drink as well?

It all boils down to personal choice.

This was still a 'free' country last time I looked.

while we are at it, I think making them smoke only in bus stops and ashtrays is degrading, anywhere outside ought to be ok.

Tenantry 02-08-2009 05:02 PM

Actually Jayson, the deletion was an accident - not intentional at all...I thought I could have added another poll choice that was suggested to me. Turns out I clicked something wrong.

Yes, BB is supposed to be representative of the general population, and I am only asking those same people, the general population represented on this forum, if we should try for a smoke-free BB11?

BB is also supposed to be a 'social experiment', so what is the problem with having it smoke-free, or indeed smoke-restricted, where they are only allowed to smoke for 1 hour per day? They already have imposed an alcohol restriction on BB that wasn't there on BB2, for example.

Given the current climate where smoking is both considered a financial luxury and a socially unacceptable practice, not to mention the points made by IOW, I am curious, in the socially voyeuristic fashion that makes me watch BB, about the viewer and future applicants' reactions if there was to be a ban or restriction.

Drinking alcohol on a regular basis and smoking on a regular basis

It's a bit naive to say that EVERY person that smokes will get lung cancer, same as it would be naive for me to say that every person who drinks regularly will die from alcohol related disease.

I'm just saying that if you are for banning people doing one thing then why not another, they both cause damage at the end of the day.

Marc 02-08-2009 05:37 PM

Yeah the smokers are evil and get crazy over the lack of fags

Chri$ 02-08-2009 05:37 PM

Yes, They should have a healthy and green BB.
