Idea To Stop Trolls Altogether

On a wrestling forum I go on, they have this message in the rules.

SPAMMERS BEWARE:
If you sign up and are planning on spamming the boards we will not only ban your email and IP Address, we will also trace your IP and report to your ISP, we will also pass your name, email & IP address to over 200 forums and websites and have you banned from using those sites too.

So Spammers be warned!

This would stop trolls altogether.

I imagine this does happen anyway (being reported to ISPs).

Yeah it does.

However, you still can't stop people using a proxy or ones who can change their IP addresses.

Thought so,thanks.

This would be a good idea, something definitely needs to be done.

I think the ignore feature needs to be improved too. Surely there's a way in which if you ignore someone their posts or threads won't show up at all.

That way if someone like dennis just kept on signing up we could just ignore them straight away and carry on posting without recognising their existance.

Yes, but if somebody quotes one of their posts, how are you gonna stop people from seeing that?

Just ask people kindly not to quote their posts, either create a thread about it or stick a message at the top of the forum.

I'm sure most people would agree to it after the trouble we've been having with dennisabre.

And do youu honestly think that would work? What about people who aren't aware of the problems such as newer members? People will still want to reply to certain posts as dennis does get childishly personal.

This is why the admin/mods are having a problem with dennissabre because they can't permaban his ip address because he keeps changing it. The only option they have is to report him to his ISP if he continues to do this. James has already threatened him with this, but he hasn't taken any notice.
