I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing myself !! its either true or Hypocondriacs United in here ,Can you claim invalidity for it ,Is it contagious?

boomoo 12-08-2009 12:08 AM

It is easy to admit to a panic attack on a forum.

Most people dont believe the condition exists so I hope they never have one. Believe me if you have one you will certainly have a second.
You will never be as strong again.

Jarvio 12-08-2009 12:08 AM

I have had panic attacks and been told by doctors. My first one was absolutely terrible. I'm no faker

InOne 12-08-2009 12:08 AM

Who knows, everytime someone says they have one though, someone sh!ts on them and says they dont.

It isnt random comments though is it? Obviously something like this will bring out peoples experiences with the same thing.

Same as if one of the housemates came out with something, say, they were diabetic...lots of people would sympathise, saying they are also and know how it feels.

Also, panic attacks are a lot more common than people believe. Many of my friends suffer from them...in varying degrees of intensity.

Exactly. I WISH I never had a panic attack because ever since my first one I was never the same again. My first one happened in a lecture. I had to walk out. I thought I was dying. Obviously I was not dying but that's what it felt like at the time.

TurtleSoup 12-08-2009 12:11 AM

Many people suffer from panic attacks, the severity and frequency of them varies, it doesn't mean people I lying.

Stephanie 12-08-2009 12:11 AM

Here here. It takes over your life doesn't it? After my first one I was afraid to go to college incase I had one on the bus or something, and also thought it could have been signs of an oncoming heart attack.

Damn A-Level pressure

InOne 12-08-2009 12:15 AM

Im just too free spirited to have one. In other words, I couldn't give a fcuk about life or whatever it brings.

Yeah I can relate. My first one was the scariest experience of my life. All the others I've had have not been as bad as the first, but many have come close, and since then the doctor told me I have severe anxiety.

Ditto. I was pilled up to my eyes during my exams, it's all jsut a blur!

I rushed out forgetting to take the medication one morning and almost passed out in my Doctor Faustus exam. Awful, awful. I find that no matter how many time I have them they never get 'easier. Sure they differ in intensity but I still start thinking "what if?" and it panics me even more.

Sigh.

joanne555jasper 12-08-2009 12:19 AM

I used to get them when I first had my daughter. I used to panic at being left alone with her when she was a baby because I found it hard to cope. I was rushed to hospital when I had the first one because the paramedics thought I was having a heart attack.
This was not what Freddie had tonite. He did what my daughter used to do at two years old. Cry so much she couldn't get her breath. It's totally different. That's my opinion anyway. And no I don't condone what Bea has been doing, nor am I a Freddie supporter. In fact I'd like to watch some of the other Hms for a change. I'm sick of those two.

Mutteroo 12-08-2009 12:19 AM

Many people will probably have had a panic attack in their lives. Some may not even realise these are panic attacks because they do not fit the criteria that person put them in.

Not a qualified psychologist so I could not say who is faking. To be fair, panic attacks are very frightening and anyone who wishes to fake them is likely to be in need of proffesional support!

Hope Freddie is receiving help from the BB psych team as his distress was clearly on show.

You are really not a nice person are you?

I claim incapacity benefit because at times I can't even leave my house because of anxiety and panic attacks, so it has pretty much ruined my life for the past 2 years and caused me to be completely housebound at one point.

So for people to be making the kind of comments like they are right now, I find it personally insulting.

Until you've had them you haven't got a clue , that's why people are arguing. The first one can come out of the blue later on in life. I wouldn't wish them on anybody but I'm certain some of the people joking about them here will get one sooner or later. They're just part of life...

Jarvio 12-08-2009 12:25 AM

My very first one was about 6 months ago. I am still on edge today. I hope I get myself back together again, has anyone here overcome anxiety problems? I don't exactly want it to effect my third year of uni

The reason most are arguing is because they havent had them, and are using textbook examples of panic attack to judge. some people are also arguing because what they saw on screen did not match their own symptoms. I have never suffered a panic attack, but my partner does frequently, and they are not always the same, sometimes they are very mild, other times he thinks he is dying.
