My essay on Marcus (which is entirely my own opinion)

I was asked to do a Marcus 'essay' so here goes... (It's not too long this time) .

Ahhh, Marcus, now there is an interesting character.
He is the strong, solid type who gives out the vibe that you can rely on him in a crisis and for advice. He has to be seen as a ‘leader’, and an INVINCIBLE one at that. In his eyes, he doesn’t make mistakes, he is always right, and women (like Noirin) are secretly in love with him and want him. He thinks he is wonderful, so therefore everyone else must do so too. When he is rejected, it is not his fault - there must be something badly wrong with the other person.

His world is one full of fantasy where he is some sort of mighty hero who has adventures and stand - offs with the ‘baddies’ (BB). He sees himself as the ultimate figure of authority and his shenanigans in the house and DR are his way of letting BB know that no man (or woman) can rule over the Mighty Marcus.
In reality, though, it is mostly false bravado. He doesn’t take his rule breaking to the extreme, but backs down in a way that doesn’t SEEM like backing down, but really is. That way he saves face and can still feel powerful. He is really quite child - like in his rebellions, the way he breaks things and curses at BB like a naughty 7 year old having a tantrum. He’s a ‘hard man’ on the outside, and a little boy playing exciting war games on the inside. I think that is why he came onto BB - it is the perfect platform for him to live out his fantasies and entertain the public while doing so.

I bet he has a superhero - like name for himself in his thoughts. I can see him sitting there brushing his hair and playing a scenario in his mind of overcoming some evil entity and saving the world, bringing all fair maidens to fall at this feet with awe and lust.
I think he is quite a kindly and sensible person, when he emerges out of the ‘look at me, I’m so cool’ persona. He should cut off that hair and join the army. He’d make a wonderful soldier.

You were asked to write an essay? Really? By whom? Just wondering...

And Marcus is waaaay too old to join the army.

Patrick 12-08-2009 03:36 PM

By just a few posters here.

The army comment was 'tongue in cheek' - not meant to be taken literally.

Marcus is borderline on the age entry requirements, unfortunantely his lack of self discipline, his lone wolf style and his resentment of authority would soon see him stood in front of his commander for a one way conversation.

"entirely my own opinion" ....yep but not a new or an original angle.

I think Marcus likes to play the rebel as a way of dealing with his feeling that he is an outsider. He doesn't fit in but seems to pre-empt rejection by giving it all the finger. I think if someone just gave him a great big hug he'd cry his beady little eyes out.

Completly agree, he can be a bit deluded at times. Very stubborn, needs to let go a bit I think. A lonely man

I disagree. Marcus makes HIMSELF an outsider - because that 's the way he wants it.

Thanks. It was as simple as that, yes.

There are some very paranoid people on here. They take everything so seriously.

Actually I asked Jet to write an essay on Marcus after reading a very well balanced essay on Halfwit. I find Jet to be one of the few who post on here sensibly without allowing themselves to be blinded by whoever is their favourite. Also uses their own opinion without jumping on something that someone either in the house or on the forums has put into peoples heads.
Thanks Jet for yet another great post and I agree with most of what you say.
