The REAL Reason BB is finishing

Unfortunately the person responsible for the demise of BB is no longer alive herself. It was Jade Goody's racial remarks and the bullying of Shilpa Shetty which reverberated around the world that started the decline. It was on nearly every news bullitin in every country and left C4 running scared, it has never been the same since. EVERYTHING is now recorded before being broadcast including eviction nights and Friday's finale. C4 have to do that so they can censor out any swearing or contoversial remarks or incidents. It's been such a hot potato ever since it was fairly obvious they would drop it as soon as their contract with Endemol expired. Unfortunately because of that and the cost involved thete is no other broadcaster who would want to touch it with a barge pole. One of the people that made it has also broken it.

It had an effect but it is just because the people who first watched Big Brother have grown up a little and are bored of it now and less are being introduced to it because of other shows etc.

Ridiculous.

Agree with OP. That signalled the steady decline of the show as more and more restrictions were placed upon it, while it became heavily scrutinized and monitored. The show is rather stale at this stage too though.

The contestants also helped to kill it off. All the big busted wannabees and all the pairings in the first week to make mega bucks with newspaper deals.
David was the type of contestant that made the early programmes. Just in there for a lark.
Another thing that spoilt it was lenthening the programme to 13 weeks. The house mates get really tired and sick of the games. They just want to get home.
Also health and safety laws have meant many of the early games could not be done now.
Johnny was one of the funniest housemates ever and I think it went down hill from then.
Manipulating the housemates until you ended up with the most ridiculous choice this year.

Nah… Chavs voting for other Chavs to pass the time, great business model.

Yep, Big Brother were the architects of their own demise really, because in the hunt for higher ratings and publicity they threw in more and more controversial and egotistical characters who craved the attention and the sudden 15 mins worth of fame. This programme set a trend that was followed for years, with people suddenly becoming famous for no reason other than being thrown up on the tv screen.

I think the 2000's will always be remembered for this: it will be the decade of wannabes and exhibitionists, but like everything in life there comes a time when people say enough- when the attention these shows receive reaches saturation point and slowly begins to fade away.

chris1232 06-09-2009 07:26 PM

Noirin was good fun to watch!

And yeah, I'm sad it's going to be none existant next year.
