Scared about college

I start on Thursday and am so scared about making friends and stuff. My worst fear is being told to get into groups and not knowing anyone! What if I make a fool out of myself and that stays with me throughout college life? What if I dont make friends or there are some people who are pricks? What if Im told to get into groups when I don't know anyone? :bawling: Im so scared =(

Tom 08-09-2009 08:54 PM

Everyone is in the same boat, if you have to get into groups the teacher will almost certainly do it

I can guarantee that this time next week you'll be thinking wtf was I so worried about

Fom 08-09-2009 08:59 PM

Im scared the same way about uni, but I know in a few weeks I will be used to it. ive started at 3 different colleges over the past years and each time has been scary... it never gets easier in life, wether it is uni or a job or whatever. Its a big change, your allowed to be scared :P

Good luck with it! Just enjoy it and go with the flow.

Jayson 08-09-2009 09:06 PM

Don't worry yourself to death about it, you'll make friends in no time.

Just like Tom said, in a week or two you'll be wondering what you were ever scared of in the first place :)

_Seth 08-09-2009 09:22 PM

Thanks, but what would I say if the teacher said get into groups? I just wouldnt know what to do :$ it would be so awkward nd Im really shy, thats a horrible situation to be in

Scarlett. 08-09-2009 09:23 PM

College is a lot better than school, trust me, theres nothing to worry about

MrGaryy 08-09-2009 09:39 PM

Just fake it til you make it. Try to appear somewhat nonchalant about the whole thing in order to endear yourself to people. And don't come across too needy I don't think there's anything more off putting.

I start on Thursday and I'm both nervous and couldn't give a **** ha.

BBUK4LYFE 08-09-2009 11:12 PM

I was scared when I first started college also, but by the second or third day it all goes away.

Yep. Pretty much every class that I took.

Its great and frustrating all at the same time. You get to meet classmates and thats a great way to make college friends. The worst thing about it is, there is ALWAYS someone that does not pull their weight in the group. So you'll most likely have to do extra work to cover their behinds, to get it done.

I start on Monday, Bricking it ha. Only know 2 people in my whole college because all my other mates are in other DIT

andyman 09-09-2009 01:38 AM

Vodka! Drink it, feel it, love it!

Tom4784 09-09-2009 03:08 AM

Completely nothing to worry about, you'll be fine. Chances are not many poeple in your course will know each other so you'll all be in the same situation. My advice is to just through yourself into it.

Spike 09-09-2009 06:16 AM

Don't worry, a lot of people will be in the same position as you
College, I find, is way better than school. People are nicer and mature so just be yourself, go with it and enjoy it.

Dont worry, believe me!

I started college induction on Monday and I went in again yesterday as well, you make friends unbelievably fast.

I start for real on Tuesday, I have no worries now.

NettoSuperstar! 09-09-2009 10:59 AM

After a week you'll be fine

SurferJay 09-09-2009 11:07 AM

My cousin goes to college but only he got in because he was on the S but he doesnt go to many lectures or anything just do that

Billy 09-09-2009 05:44 PM

I know how you feel! I just started on Monday but the tutors know you won't know anyone, so if you get told to go into groups you'll be told who to go with etc.

You'll find that people are all the same at first, they're all nervous and waiting for someone to speak to them and the best way to go about it is just try and make as many friends as possible by basically just chatting. Stuff like why they picked the course etc! Oh and awkward silences, if you get any just like interrupt it syaing something like don't you hate awkward silences? It's easier to break the ice when you know everyone is the same as you.

I do the awkward silence breaker as well, itd oesnt normally happen as i chat alot, but at college for my first day, I said "Well, this is an exciting awkward silence" and people laughed, it works and its a good way to break silence.

Dolphin-and-Whale 09-09-2009 05:58 PM
