La Roux brands Taylor Swift 'no good'

Quote:

La Roux singer Elly Jackson has blasted Taylor Swift's music as "manufactured princess pop".

The 21-year-old criticised Kanye West for storming the stage during the country singer's acceptance speech at the MTV VMAs last weekend, but also conceded that Swift isn't a worthy winner.

"Kanye West is a jackass, so that's not really pointing out anything that anyone didn't know anyway," she told Radio 1.

"I think you should never go and ruin someone's moment like that, whether you feel they deserve it or not.

"I think most people are in agreement that Taylor Swift's video probably wasn't the best video of the bunch, nor is it the best music in the world. But if it has been voted in, don't have a go at Taylor Swift, have a go at the people who voted for it. Don't ruin her day."

Jackson added: "I do think people should stand up more against rubbish music and people should say, 'No, sorry this isn't that good'. It's not. Taylor Swift's music isn't good, it's manufactured princess pop, we've got enough of it, let's have something else."

La Roux release new single 'I'm Not Your Toy' on September 28.
I can't help but note a recurring trend of La Roux criticizing other young successful pretty female artists. I like both A LOT so can't judge but I don't think its fair for her to brand us all sheep and speak as if we cant 'stand up' for our tastes, clearly a lot of people like her.

Twilight 18-09-2009 04:48 PM

FFS can she actually stop criticizing female artists just because there better then her

Iceman 18-09-2009 04:50 PM

it's manufactured princess pop, we've got enough of it, let's have something else.

Novo 18-09-2009 05:02 PM

New word please

King Gizzard 18-09-2009 05:07 PM

She should look at herself before judging others

Deirdre 18-09-2009 05:07 PM

Ugh she is so bitter cause she's so ugly.

Tom 18-09-2009 06:02 PM

Kanye West is a *****? Will that do?

I think she's right, Taylor Swift is nothing new or special and the only reason she is successful as she is, is because of good marketing. It doesn't take much to be a commercial success, If i had the right people behind me I could record and release a number 1 hit tommorow. One thing that La Roux has over Taylor Swift is that They've had both commercial and critical success.

arsenalforever 18-09-2009 10:25 PM

La roux sucks balls

MarkWaldorf 18-09-2009 10:28 PM

I hate artists who decide to insult people who listen to a certain artist. We're the people who buy your music bitch.

atieah2009 18-09-2009 10:30 PM

I'm not being offensive but i find Taylor's music far better then La Roux's.

Fom 19-09-2009 01:05 AM

She has a point it is a bit like manufactured princess pop, and even if she writes it herself... she is writing common over done princess pop. But at the end of the day, she did win the award fair and square, and no one should ruin that for her.

Shaun 19-09-2009 03:09 AM

I wish that munter would ****. Their ****ing music goes through more layers of synthesizers than there are mirrors in Kanye West's house [and she STILL sounds like an ostrich passing a ****ing kidney stone].

Someone test her bulletproof theory ASAP.

xDramatick 19-09-2009 08:23 AM

Team Taylor here.

Seriously, La Roux aren't that much better than 'manufactured princess pop'.

BBUK4LYFE 19-09-2009 08:56 AM

What I find very very strange about what she says is how it's a little bit confused and lost.

Taylor is a young girl and this is the kind of music she introduced herself to and she likes and why she won American Idol... ok... so this is the kind of music she wrote lyrics (with only one co-writer) and the video was appropriate to the song.

Now... she's talking about VMAs where most are manufactured. Even Kanye is very much manufactured too.

It's difficult to work out why she is even commenting on this because it's the last thing you comment on when wanting real music. The VMA is the haven for manufactured music.

OH ok.

LOL. I thought she did. You know what I mean.

MiuMiu 19-09-2009 12:11 PM

She is right about Taylor's video not being worthy of the best female video award,
But she's dead wrong about the quality of Swift's music.
Unlike miss thaang Elly Jackson, Swift actually writes her own songs and just because they are pleasing to the ear doesn't make her music unworthy.
Taylor Swift makes nice, simple and effective songs.
A feat which most, including La Roux, cannot master.

But it doesn't really matter.
Give it two years and we'll all be saying; "Hey remember that Bjork/Kate Bush/Tori Amos/Goldfrapp/Natasha Khan/Grace Jones/Crystal Castles/Janelle Monae wannabe La Roux? No? Ok... me neither lol!"
:joker:

MrGaryy 19-09-2009 12:32 PM

tbf, La Roux do write and produce all of their own music.

Dolphin-and-Whale 19-09-2009 02:02 PM

I agree with her

*mazedsalv** 19-09-2009 03:58 PM

Ive never liked La Roux, her hair and face annoys me.... sorry!!
