I failed first year

And now I have no clue what to do with my life.

Anyone offer any advice?? I kinda need it right now

alc09 21-09-2009 04:29 PM

Give some more information, where you at, college? And what subjects did you take?

Princess 21-09-2009 04:30 PM

I failed first year at uni, nursing.

Sorry,it's just most people on here know that

alc09 21-09-2009 04:35 PM

Fair enough.

And as I'm younger than you I aint in the best position to comment, so some of the older lot will be able to give you a better answer.

Scarlett. 21-09-2009 04:37 PM

Damn :/ you worked hard too

I'm not sure what you could go into next

Fom 21-09-2009 04:51 PM

I would recommend just trying again, its clearly something close to your heart. Keep trying until you get it.

Tom4784 21-09-2009 05:04 PM

Oh Laura I'm so sorry :hug:Like Fom said you can always try again. Or if you don't want to do it is there any other proffesions you're interested in that could use the qualifications you've attained so far?

Beastie 21-09-2009 05:05 PM

Was it a degree in nursing? I remember my step cousin failed her first year of her nursing degree and then she decided to go to a different university to do nursing but not in degree level in a higher diploma level.

So the advice I can think of is if you still want to be a nurse you could opt for the higher national diploma level. I think this may be easier than the degree level but I suppose talk to careers advisors first!

if you like anything other than nursing,, why not go into something,, like... try for modelling,, something famous. etc... maybe? but dont worry,, something will cum along for you. xxx

Scarlett. 21-09-2009 05:09 PM

I agree with Fom, if your heart is set on nursing, keep trying :)

Tom 21-09-2009 05:17 PM

There are other ways into nursing, e.g if you do Health & Social Care not at degree level rather than nursing, and then go to work in an old peoples home, after a while you'll have enough experience to go on to do nursing. Slightly more lengthy but if you've got no other options you could try that. Or you could always do the year again (whether at the same uni or not) but if you can't start again until next year then you might as well get some work experience over the next year.

Or you could always look into getting an apprenticeship in nursing.

My mum also failed her first year but she is now a great nurse. A lot of people fail the first year because it's rather tough and they generally pass the repeat year.

You're still young. Repeat the year and stay in Nursing. It might seem like a big deal now but trust me, you'll be ok. Just stick with it.

Princess 21-09-2009 06:27 PM

Thanks guys! Was talking to my dad for about forever there. I'm going to appeal on grounds of family **** this year and good attendance and the fact that I passed all my other exams. If that doesn't work, well I'll figure it out later

What stupid advice. Why not?

Just appeal and if that doesn't work, i'd try again, take none of r2-d2's nonsense advice.
