They have a different pain stimulus, reaction and adherence to humans. A pain for animals can be bearable while for us it includes an intelligent and emotional response.

For instance, when a Dog responds to love and companionship, it's based upon an autonomic response from their time as pack members and used by tribes during the stone age.

We fed dogs, we gave them a place to say and the domesticated habitat has been a part of them for... a very very long time now.

It's the same for all animals. Basically operating on an autonomic basis or responding to stimuli - the level of that response is based upon the need involved. For us, humans, since we have a cultural, emotional and biological need as well - pain means so much more to us than animals.

So when people say animals don't feel pain - they don't feel pain like humans do.

I am sorry but when I step on a dogs paw, it yelps. End of story. I dont care what cognitive abilitys said dog has. If you like animals it makes no sense to hurt them, hence my vegetarianism.

If you dont care, I can actualy respect that. It's the hypocrisy that gets to me. All these teenage girls who love ickle dolphins and horses but eat ****ing cows, sheep and pigs everyday.

They do feel pain. Obviously!

setanta 30-09-2009 01:51 PM

They feel pain - emotions and position within the animal kingdom has nothing to do with it.

Sure dogs pine and pine for their owners when they're seperated from them or rehomed. These are not the actions of a purely instinctive being without any real feelings of loss.

If animals feel pain then why are scientists allowed to experiment on them?

Halal means they are drained of all blood and blessed. They will be paralyzed prior too slaughter. Just like everything else, they are dipped into an electrical bath which doesn't kill them but paralyzes them so they feel no pain or even know what's going on.

And to your animal testing question... that's why there is such a debate about it. But most testing isn't painful.
