Damn, Im having braces put in on Nov 2nd!

Ive had the bite plate for 4 months now, and that was such a pain, I still hate it. Thank God I dont have to wear the plate (which still affects my speech) anymore after next week.

Eating was a problem for the first 2 weeks and had to eat stupid liquid foods, which sucked so much!!

But on November 2nd im having my actual braces put in.
Ive heard that i wont be ble to eat proper food for a while... and also heard that it WONT affect my speech (Thank God!).

So for people that have/have had them, questions for you.

1) Does it hurt more than a bite plate?
2) Does it really not affect speech?
3) How long will it take to start eating proper foods again??

Any additional help will be cool :)

I can't remember what the bite plates were it was that long ago that I started my treatment. Where they those blue band things that go over your teeth? Cause I hated them.

But anyway, I got my braces done in 2 seperate parts, the bottom one went on first in about April time and then about two weeks ago I had my top one put on as well.

Bottom one doesn't hurt as much as the top one, but I think eating problems were pretty much the same. As for speech, I can't really remember.

But for my top one I'd say it took me around 3/4/5 days before I could eat properly, but at least 7/8 days before the pain had fully gone. Speech was a lot more difficult on the top one too, and unfortunately it's not as hidden as the bottom ones (no one ever noticed my bottom ones unless I showed them) which means that I've had to change my characteristics in a way because I hate showing them. So now instead of just laughing normally I always put my hand over my mouth/face as I'm laughing.

If you're having them both put on at the same time, all of this might be pretty useless, and I don't know whether it'll be more/less painful than having them done seperately. All I know is that each time I had them put on I felt like ripping my jaw out because all of it aches.

Best of luck anyway, I'd say you'll need it.

Im scared to get Bracis,

I`ve asked my Mum and Dad if I would ever need them and they say no my teeth arent bad, but I dunno..

If I ever had to get them I would tell the Doctor to go **** himself,

Are they really sore to get in?

My Ex Girlfriend said they hurt so much

That's what I feel like doing every single time I get them tightened.

Braces are easily the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life, they really are awful. You get used to them but it's not just the pain, it's the fact that 9/10 you get food stuck in the gaps in them and it takes like 15 minutes to try and get them out.

I seriously cannot wait for the day I get them off, I'll stuff my face with food until I throw up, literally.

I remember the day i had them put on I had to have soup for tea cause they were quite painfull but they really dont hurt that much. I waited 2 days to eat proper food again cause it hurt to chew.
God i must make it sound really bad but honestly its not! and no your speech doesnt change at all.

Bite plate is the one where you have over the roof of your moth, making it impossible for me to speak properly and always have a lisp.

I get exactly what your saying about the covering your mouth with your hands when laughing I defenitley will be doing that.

Im having it all done at the same time I think, also do you think i should get the clear ones (or ones you cant see as much), because i dont want it to be really obvious.

Thanks :)

And thank you from the help of everyone else :)

i had a brace when i was about ten, and it used to hurt when i ate food (this was after two days) so i took them out when i was having something to eat, put them on the table, and my brother jumped up on the table and sat right on them, they snapped in half and i never got a new set, now my teeth are ********d.

Dont kill me for asking a 2 Stupid Quistions

1. If I had to get Braces would I be forced to? Or do I have the option to tell the Dentist where to shove his Braces?

2. How do I avoid getting Braces?
