Should x-factor be a singing competition or a tv entertainment show?

Simon says it is a singing competion - that is how it is packaged - there are only singers in the show - no other type of entertainment. It has always been referred to as a talent competition - but many on this site now claim it is an entertainment show. It is a bit of both - but ultimately a talent show?

Opinions please!

None of them. It's a 'whoever manages to make people cry thanks to their sob story' show. Just like 99.9% of reality TV shows.

It's a farce now, where Simon's disdain and disregard for the audience is barely concealed. He realises how easily he can manipulate the audience at this stage, which has led him to abandon any credibility that he or the show ever possessed in order to achieve his goal. The show has always tried to brainwash the public but it's gone into overdrive this series with Simon adding to the madness. There was a time when he actually had something to say and I remember I used to applaud him for some of his comments, but now he's turned into a total phoney.

I agree. Simon does appear to be pandering to the teeny bopper market now with all thought of creating a genuine new talent out the window. I was so disappointed with his cop-out on Saturday - leading to the loss of one such genuine talent.

The show has become increasingly flamboyant and dramatic - very Americanised - over the years - attracting a larger teenage audience - who are more interested in image than talent. Simon now appears to have given up the ghost - in order to preserve large audiences (no matter who that audience consists of) simply for ratings and therefore money in the bank for him. Such a shame.

Although I didn't necessarily like him - I respected his opinion. But now it seems - we can no longer do that.

Look, X-Factor is a TV SHOW - it was conceived as a TV SHOW - it is about ratings and advertising for ITV.

It is no more a singing show or talent show as All Star family Fortunes is about giving to charity.

It's a singing contest. Hell's Kitchen is a TV show, but you can't win it by dancing.

Its who has the full package type show.

Not just a singer, but a good personality, likeability, look..

Loukas 04-11-2009 09:27 AM

A Reality TV Show with people that actually have talent. Not like bloody John & Edward!People may find them entertaining but i don't care they can't sing for s***!

The key point being - a singer. Some might prefer the winner to have what they consider a good personality, the likeability factor etc - as well as being able to sing.

J&E - whether or not people believe they have other attributes - no doubting the fact they can't sing. Therefore on the wrong show.

You have to be able to sing to win for me, but you cant be cocky rude or anything, and have to look at least half decent.

John and Edward wont win it, its just fact, and they dont deserve to.

Sting was on bbc this am and he said that the trouble with the X factor is the ability to mimic another talent such as Whitney or Mariah is encouraged and the true x factor, which is about having your own interesting, unique sound is discouraged.
so its really just a karaoke, impression show:sleep:

Adamw92 04-11-2009 10:11 AM

It could be a bit of both, right now it's like 75% entertainment, 25% talent, it should be 50/50 at least

Do you think that Miss World is about finding the worlds most beautiful well-rounded woman or is it about checking out some skirt in bikinis?

Did you ever see large ladies in the contest that were voted for on their personalities and likeability factor?

yet there are no sob stories.

Its an entertainment show disguised as a singing competition. If it was truly a singing competition then the focus would be on the acts and not the whole panto (silly judges intros, booing etc) as well as having only very good people put through at the producer auditions, and not the likes of her with her dog.

If you think ITV care about the winner and what happens to acts after the show then you're sadly mistaken.
