Studio Ghibli

Studio Ghibli is a film studio that's made films such as Spirited Away and Howl's moving Castle and I love it. I'm trying to collect all their films but ussually they're so expensive to say how long some of them have been out for. So far I've watched:

Howl's Moving Castle*
Princess Mononoke *
Laputa: Castle in the Sky*
Whisper of the Heart*
Porco Russo
Castle of Cagliostro
The Cat Returns
Grave of the Fireflies*

* means I got it on DVD

I've got a feeling I've forgotten a few but I'll probably add more when I'm more awake. I can see this thread just being a threeway discussion between me, Rory and Claudia

Yeah It's quite good, it's actually a kind of spinoff/sequel to Whisper of the Heart.

Rory 24-11-2009 12:12 PM

I was going to watch Howl's last night but got too tired! I will watch it tonight.

Princess Mononoke is still my favorite. :p

Tom4784 24-11-2009 03:38 PM

Grave and Howl is my favourite, although Mononoke is the runner up.

I can never say that name out loud  I keep getting caught up I'm like 'Mononononon......HELP I CAN'T STOP!' Brilliant film though.

I love Ghibli movies

Dezzy, have you seen the Girl who flew through time? It is not Ghibli but it reminded me of them, its very good.

Tom4784 12-12-2009 12:44 AM

Ah I found the trailer, I see what you mean about the style being similar. It looks quite good I must remember to check it out.

GypsyGoth 12-12-2009 12:45 AM

It was "leaped" not "flew," my mistake.

Tom4784 12-12-2009 12:59 AM

Ah thanks Claudia

Tom4784 12-12-2009 01:03 AM

Ooooh this looks like a good film, again not Ghibli but still.

Unfortunately It's not coming out in the UK until next year, it looks brilliant though.

GypsyGoth 12-12-2009 01:08 AM

I might see I can d/l that tomorrow, it does look very good.

Tom4784 12-12-2009 01:09 AM

Ah I think I'm gonna have me a Ghibli day on Sunday I think, I'm right back in the mood to watch them again now.

Rofl, next time you see a cat in trouble, walk quickly and swiftly away  That's the morale of that film.

BB_Eye 12-12-2009 08:14 PM

Sadly I've only seen Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service... I really enjoyed them both and should see more.

If you like Studio Ghibli though and want something more grown up, you should check out Satoshi Kon's movies Tokyo Godfathers and Paprika.

Rory 12-12-2009 08:29 PM

I've only seen Princess Mononoke and Graveyard of Fireflies :( I need to watch some more over Christmas break.

I randomly have spirited away on dvd, it's not bad either. I really like Grave of the fireflies though.

I've heard of Paprika, I'll check 'em out on YT. Thanks.

Definately check out more if you can, Film4 tends to to show them a lot.

You shouldn't worry.....Unless they stand up and start talking.

Tom4784 13-12-2009 01:09 PM

I watched that 5 Centimeters per Second last night, I did something I don't ussually do and found a stream on the internet (I can't ussually abide watching stuff on my PC). It was a bit weird in places but I thought it was excellent, It could have done with possibly being a bit longer but I'll definately buy it when it comes out.

I'm gonna go buy Girl who Leapt through time and some other DVDs and such today so I'll probably watch that tonight.
