Is Leona going to eventually flop?

Basically if she can only get number 2 after an X Factor performance and selling about half of the copies of her first album, that isn't good? I mean I know it got to number 1 etc but that was always going to happen. And because she does ballad after ballad, and her uptempo songs don't work, will her bubble shortly burst?

Tom4784 27-11-2009 11:57 PM

She's doing as well as a normal high profile artist I think, her second album was never gonna do as well as her debut album, few artists' do.

It probably didn't help that she released a big slow ballad next to a BEP song. As long as her album sales keep up she'll be fine.

As for the future, I dunno. She'll have to mix things up eventually instead of sticking to the ballads.

Iceman 28-11-2009 12:00 AM

I'd say yeah, I can't see her changing her style and I think sooner or later people will get bored of the ballads...

InOne 28-11-2009 12:03 AM

People will get bored of Leona, there is not much to her really.

Shaun 28-11-2009 12:05 AM

wow, if No.2 is a flop then 2009's been an awful year for all but 20 or so acts.

MrGaryy 28-11-2009 12:49 AM

well she's releasing quite an uptempo number next so lets see how she does with that. Even if her star fades here, i still think she'll do comfortably in the US if marketed correctly.

MiuMiu 28-11-2009 02:39 AM

Computor says yes....

*mazedsalv** 28-11-2009 07:28 AM

#2 isnt a flop!!
But i do see that in 3 years time people will get bored of her.

Lewis. 28-11-2009 08:13 AM

She came 2nd after an X factor performance.. but in all fairness the poeple who got no 1 were also on the X factor

Stacey. 28-11-2009 08:16 AM

Yeah you're both kind of missing the point. If she can only get to number 2 by performing on the show that made her, when another band performed and outsold her, then without XF how well would it have done?

Alexandra, Cheryl and JLS are ultimately XF products and got to number 1, yet the supposed biggest star to come out of the show is the worst performing.

Patrick 28-11-2009 05:46 PM

Shes so over rated

Tom4784 28-11-2009 05:57 PM

It's more to do with the song then her I think, 'Meet me halfway's catchy as hell. If she released a catchier track she'd have got it I think. the reason why she didn't win over BEP while the other XF products did was because they had the catchier song each time.

I do think she'll flop in time but I don't think it'll be the end of her, She'll pull a Mariah Carey I think. She's got 1 or 2 albums left in her with her current style but she'll have to mix it up soon.

Beastie 28-11-2009 05:59 PM

The song "HAPPY" is a bit boring. Bleeding love was allright, better in time and footprints in the sand were quite good. I think people like her but there are not many strong passionate fans who support her..

Braden 28-11-2009 06:20 PM

she is going downhill at the moment.

MarkWaldorf 28-11-2009 06:36 PM

#2 isn't that much of a flop considering it was REALLY close between the two. She sold about 70k that week, so that's good. (remembering that most singles only need about 25k to go top 5 these days)

Most artists who have a really huge first album don't really tend to match their success with their second. Tbf Happy isn't as instant as Bleeding Love. Even with Mariah, her first album was really huge, then when she released her second album so soon after it failed to match the success. Then she did a third album and gave us Hero, Without You and had one of the biggest selling albums of all time with it.

Jords 28-11-2009 06:36 PM

If she releases I got you as a single shell be fine, that is a really good song, happy and outta my head do not match the strength of her previous singles.

Your right. GaGa is more interesting currently than Madonna has been since about 1992.

Patrick 28-11-2009 07:13 PM

I Hate her
I met her and shes so stuck up and big headed.

Her songs are **** too.

I liked 'Forgive Me' she should do more songs like that

Huh? That was the Erotica/Sex Book era. She was exiting in the 90's with the Ray Of Light and still interesting with all her other progects this decade.

Madonna has many albums yet and I think they will be very good. Just wait and see.

001steven 28-11-2009 09:12 PM

It depends, but imo I think she's boring she has no stage presense, and her ballads are boring I mean Happy was such a bad choice for 1st song from a new album very weak,

that's why I prefer Alexandra she's great performer she can dance and sing and she broke the mould of releasing an upbeat club song for her 1st song which is fantastic.

So back to topic I say leona has about 1 or 2 albums left then peope will get bored of her unless she changes her style of music and mixes it up.

Tom 29-11-2009 10:51 PM

To those saying how Happy is a success ... it has plummeted down the chart, its now at number 10 bearing in mind its only the third week since release. Cheryl's debut song is currently outselling her.

Barbie 30-11-2009 07:56 AM

She's good but i dont think she will be a "pop" artist forever. She does too many ballads, gets repetitive

EDIT: spelling mistake
