Not solved.

I'm stuck.

Maths homework.

Trigonometric graphs and equations.

And I'm in the top class in my year.

It says..

Solve these equations, correct to 1 decimal place, for 0 ≤ x ≤ 360.

3 tan x° = 4

Can someone help me?

EDIT: SOLVED

Axiom 29-11-2009 05:51 PM

No.

Only joking, don't have a clue sorry mate!

xDramatick 29-11-2009 05:55 PM

Considerin all the XF threads flying about I thought this was going to be about those Danyl && Lloyd rumours...

Firewire 29-11-2009 05:56 PM

lmao Daren.

No, this is actually homework.

And I'm terribly stuck.

None of my friends know either.

First, tan x = 3/4 ==> sin x = 3/5 by using sohcahtoa and the 3-4-5 right triangle.

Next, sin(pi - x) = sin pi cos x - cos pi sin x = sin x.
Since tangent has period pi, tan(pi+x) = tan(4pi+x) = tan x.

Next,
cos(3pi/2+x) = cos(3pi/2) cos x - sin(3pi/2) sin x = sin x
cos(5pi/2-x) = cos(5pi/2) cos x + sin(5pi/2) sin x = sin x

So,
(sin(pi - x) + tan(pi+x) + tan(4pi+x)) /(cos(3pi/2+x)+cos(5pi/2-x))
= (sin x + tan x + tan x) / (sin x + sin x)
= (sin x + 2 tan x)/ (2 sin x).
= (3/5 + 2 * 3/4)/ (2 * 3/5)
= 7/4.

Firewire 29-11-2009 06:02 PM

wtf

we haven't done that in class rofl.

lily. 29-11-2009 06:03 PM

Listen to Mr Trumpet. He excels in Math.

Firewire 29-11-2009 06:05 PM

lol Linda.

But like what if it's wrong?

Firewire 29-11-2009 06:14 PM

I don't think it's right.

MrGaryy 29-11-2009 06:14 PM

just say you can't do it, I did that all the time even when i could which was like all the time *hurrflip*

lily. 29-11-2009 06:15 PM

LoL.. you should actually, seriously, do it yourself Jon... cuz ye never know what kinda shite yer guna get told on here.

xDramatick 29-11-2009 06:16 PM

Just say you couldn't do it, if you copy what LT put above, they'll probably ask you to explain it.

Firewire 29-11-2009 06:19 PM

I can't say I couldn't do it.

I don't have that type of teacher.

I would be DEAD if I don't have it done.

You forget a pencil. You get your head bitten off.

Ross 29-11-2009 06:20 PM

Say you couldn't do it you broke a nail.

Firewire 29-11-2009 06:23 PM

My teacher wouldn't care.

I bet he has a sword in the drawer.

ILoveTRW 29-11-2009 06:24 PM

x=tan^(-1)(4/3)

so the principle value is 53.1
but x can also be 233.1 in the 0<x<360 range

Ross 29-11-2009 06:24 PM

Give him head then. "Sir, I couldn't do it I'm sorry but I can make it up to you... please."

Stu 29-11-2009 06:25 PM

Tell him you have taken up a keen interest in philosophy, and simply can't commit to a piece of homework that you don't know for sure exists.

Worked for me for about eight years. I think.

Firewire 29-11-2009 06:28 PM

pahaha Stu.

I wish I could get let off that easily.

lily. 29-11-2009 06:30 PM

Then just tell that to him. Don't **** it, you can't be expected to do something you haven't even covered, man.
