Not sure what formation I'd Go For

Maybe the 4-5-1 With two attacking Midfielders supporting the Lone striker

--------------------Green----------------------

Johnson------Upson------Terry----------Cole

Beckham----------Barry-----------J.Cole

--------Gerrard---------Lampard-------

--------------Rooney--------------

Alf 29-11-2009 10:45 PM

as much as i love the jag, i dont think he'll make it
that injury has cost him, because before that he was probably the form centre back in the premier league.

setanta 29-11-2009 10:46 PM

He wont bring that many wide players. I'd say Hargreaves will go if he has a good second half to the season. If he doesn't then it'll be Carrick. Don't think Young will make it at this stage, unless he opts for him over Beckham.

setanta 29-11-2009 10:47 PM

And Brown is a liability, as well as Jagielka being injured. If King is fit enough I'd take him. And you don't have another left back in your squad.

Novo 29-11-2009 10:49 PM

Leighton baines is the only other left back i can think off who he decent enough to make the squad

Very hard to think of any good ones. Your man Bridge isn't solid enough for me. Hargreaves can play full back if asked to do it but you really need another one. Who else is there? What's that young lad at Arsenal called? Baines is good but he's a bit slow for international level, right?

30stone 29-11-2009 10:53 PM

Goal Keepers - 3
Green
Robinson/Foster
James

Defenders - 7
Terry
Ferdinand
A.Cole
Johnson
Lescott/ Jagileka
Gibbs / Bridge
Upson

Midfielders - 9
Lampard
Gerrard
J.Cole
Walcott
Beckham
Lennon
Barry
Milner / Young
Carick / Downing / SWP

Forwards - 4
Rooney
Defoe
Crouch
Bent/ Agbonlahor

As for positions..

-------------Green-------------

-Johnson-Terry-Ferdinand-A.Cole-

-------------Barry---------------

---Walcott---Gerrard---Lampard---

--------Defoe--------Rooney----------

Other posibilities.

Walcott out for lennon or beckham
Defoe out for Crouch
Barry out for J cole (changing formation to a 4 - 4 - 2)

Novo 29-11-2009 10:54 PM

Forgot about Gibbs not sure he deserves a call up though aint seen to much of him

Gibbs.

The style.

The speed.

The ability.

Only thing with him is inexperience and hes not big built.

He's better than Bridge though. I'd be willing to take him along if he gets a bit more first team football under his belt. There's not many others out there.

taking king is a gamble for capello, but if you dont gamble you dont win.
i'd personaly take the risk with king (he's a world class defender) and we dont have to many of them. but he'll most likely take the safe option with upson.
and hargreaves is a player we could do with, but he's been out a long time and still isn't back playing yet, so he's looking pretty doubtful.

I'd defo gamble with King if he feels up for it. He's top drawer and always a good option to have.

I really hope Hargreaves comes back because he's exactly what United and England need.

30stone 29-11-2009 11:00 PM

Thing is if you get an injury you can fly someone else out cant you, and send the injured person home as they are no longer allowed to play in it..

I think id take Gibbs, though hes out for like 3 - 4 weeks.
Great from what hes shown so far.

and what about people like lescott and micah(sp) richards?

Huddelstone, jenas?

setanta 29-11-2009 11:03 PM

Never been a huge fan of Lescotts. Richards looked horrendous against Ryan Giggs and I can only imagine what the big boys could do against him. He'll still take him though as cover... who else is there like?

Huddlestone and Jenas wont make it though. I'd pick Carrick or Hargreaves or both ahead of them.

Alf 29-11-2009 11:05 PM

on the subject of left backs
lets just hope ashley cole is fit and available
maybe i'm biased as an everton fan, but leighton baines is the next best for me

setanta 29-11-2009 11:08 PM

There's defo a place or two left to fill though. If I were people like Scott Parker or Jimmy Bullard I'd defo try to play out of my socks this season. Give Capello something to think about.

30stone 29-11-2009 11:10 PM

Will see how walcott does when hes back from injury because right now..

Capello would take lennon and beckham.

Walcott wouldnt make it.
He does need to perform when hes back.

Wilshire doesnt have a chance :(

i'd take all three off them
beckham as to go, because he's david beckham the legend
walcott as to go because his pace is such a big asset to the team, if there's one thing anybody dosn't like playing against it's pace, and he proved his quality away in croatia.
lennon is the best wingman we have
so they've all got to go

I'm not sure if you can though. It really depends on your full squad and what kinda ratio of attackers, defenders and midfielders it's going to comprise of.

30stone 29-11-2009 11:38 PM

I hate the rule of how many, should be allowed 30 or somthing.

It makes it interesting for us though. He wont bring the 3 of them unless he's willing to sacrifice a defender or attacker for it, right?

But it shortens our chances.

Imagine with 30+ players..

32man squad..

Goal keepers - 4
Green
Robinson
Foster/Hart
James

Defenders - 9
Terry
Ferdinand
Johnson
Cole
Gibbs
Upson
Lescott
Jagielka
King

Midfielders - 12
Lampard
Gerrard
Barry
J.Cole
Beckham
Lennon
Walcott
SWP
Milner
Young
Downing
Carick

Forwards - 7
Rooney
Defoe
Crouch
Bent
Agbonlahor
Heskey
owen

Would be a great squad

Alf 29-11-2009 11:51 PM

keepers
i'm not confident with any of our keeper's, not one of them as cemented down their place in the team. i'd go with green and james and either carson, robinson or foster.

centre backs
rio and jt goes without saying

full backs
glen johnson and ashley cole

centre mid
barry and lampard

left mid
i expect gerrard to take this role

right mid
walcott or lennon

up top
rooney for sure

beckham just has to go, milner deserves his place and can cover a few positions including full back.
heskey dosn't score that many, but is a great asset to the team as proven in the group stages, and he seems to help us see the best of rooney
crouch as to go, he give us a different option if we need to use it and defoe as realy improved as a player this season and probabley deserves a spot. but i would never rule out a player of the calibre of owen, carlton cole on standby.
i think the other spots are up for grabs.
