Categories to be scrapped?

Caller on Xtra Factor last night suggested that they scrap the categories and each judge gets 1 act from each category. Then all the judges agreed that its a good idea and they'd like to see it happen, with Holly saying the caller might be on to something.

So can you see it happening/would you like it to?

Niamh. 07-12-2009 11:47 AM

I think it'd be a good idea, yeah.

MissKittyFantastico 07-12-2009 11:47 AM

I think it's a really good idea! Gives them all a variety of people to work with.

Niamh. 07-12-2009 11:49 AM

I wonder how they'd choose who goes with who though?? They'd all be looking for the best ones

I'd say the judges houses stage would be scrapped and we'd have the top 24 in bootcamp style setting, judges agree on the top 12 then draw names out of a hat or something.

I kind of like the judges houses bit though.

Pick names at the end of bootcamp? Seems the only logical way to do it, otherwise they'd end up either arguing over them or picking teams like in school, I think that would be a bit unfair.

setanta 07-12-2009 12:08 PM

Yep, not a bad idea and it definitely means that there'll be more fighting between the judges when they're trying to get their mucky paws on the performers they want for themselves. I wonder how they'll fix that part of it? The selection process? It wont be a case of I saw him coming in first so whatever they do will be very interesting to watch.

MarkWaldorf 07-12-2009 12:11 PM

They'll probably have producers assign contestants to the mentors, like they do the categories.

Nah, that would be far too dull. They'll have some kind of selection process to spice things up a little bit more.

For this to work they'd have to rethink the categories

I'd say the obvious solution would be males, females and groups. Otherwise there would have to be 16 finalists- 4 categories x 4 judges (so 4 in each category rather than the 3 we currently have). Unless they axe a judge. Then if they axe a judge they still have to have a rethink anyway because then there are 4 categories to split.

I reckon Simon will get rid of Dannii next year anyway

Wildcat! 07-12-2009 12:23 PM

i am not keen on that. The show is about the udhes enough as it is. this will just completely make it all about them, rather than about the cathegories.

I'll be really pissed off if he does! I know Dannii has said she's not sure if she wants to come back and do next year but I reckon she's just covering her back in case he does get rid. I really like her, she's been the best judge by far this year!

I think she should jump before shes pushed. And if she went out after this year she is going out on a massive high and anything can happen in a year. People were meh about Dannii in series 4, hated her last year but loved her this year. And take Sharon, everyone loved her in series 3 but hated her by series 4.

yeah, me too but Simon seems to have gone right off her, probably cos she doesn't lick his arse like Cheryl

Danni is a nice person but she has no charisma on the live show and some of her song choices have been questionable. I don't think she'll be that big a loss even though she seems lovely.

I would love it if they did this, how they would get all the final acts though I dont know... would that mean they scrap the judges houses?

if they scrap the categories how can they then get an act from each category?

Thats just on a pedantic level ... obviously it should be "judges to no longer get a full category?"

Patrick 07-12-2009 01:56 PM

It would certainly make it fairer in the Bottom 2.
Instead of them saving their own acts.

Tom4784 07-12-2009 02:21 PM

I prefer the idea of catagories, don't fix it if it's not broken.

Jords 07-12-2009 03:13 PM

I like this idea a lot, then a group may have more chance winning :joker:
