Swear Word Filter - Is it necessary?
 

Should the swearword filter be abolished on TiBB. I personally do not think it's needed for a few reasons.

1. People circumvent it all the time.

2. The language used on reality TV is no worse than the language used on here.

3. Anyone with a membership to a reality TV forum is old enough to read bad language.


Thoughts?

i don't think it is nesessary, you have to be 13+ to sign up for tibb anyway, and by that age most people have sworn/heard/seen it all already.

This is a Big Brother forum. Big Brother is not a kid friendly show. I don't see why this forum should be.

I know 4 year olds who swear (shocking init) so seriously, its not needed.

And its not as if its going to offend anyone, its just writing.

Plus should the mods not cater to the majority? Who are the majority? Late teens and adults who can tolerate the swearing or kids?

Plus plus the people who swear will evidently continue do it anyway making the filter irrelevant.

Again, simple.

If this poll continues in this manner, I'd say mods/admin would have to respond.

I really don't need to say much more other than that I agree with the posts in this thread. There's absolutely no need for it. Just get rid of it.

Do away with it, and add a filter function in the control panel.

Considering an argument I'm having with a certain member, I'm liking this idea :thumbs:

Perfect compromise right there. If swearing nauseates you to the point where you find it necessary to see four or five astrixes in a row instead, switch your filter on.

And for the record guys when your members do see four astrixes in a row, the brain registers it as 'fuck' anyway making the filter even more irrelevant. We still know they are curses.

The human brain is good like that.

Or maybe have a filter option in the user panel. If you are offended by swearing then you can turn the filter on?

Nope just let people sware on here, most people do in real life.

I believe for legal reasons a site with users under a certain age has to have a filter. Silly i know but true :(
