Fox has confirmed scheduling details for the upcoming ninth season of American Idol.

The auditions round will air on Tuesday and Wednesday nights over four weeks beginning January 12. Cities covered by the auditions include Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Orlando, Dallas, Los Angeles and Denver.

A series of guest judges replaced departed judge Paula Abdul over the auditions round, including Katy Perry, Victoria Beckham, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Avril Lavigne and Shania Twain.

New judge Ellen DeGeneres joins the panel - alongside Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi - from the Hollywood rounds, which air February 9, 10, 16 and 17.

When the top 12 boys and top 12 girls are revealed, the competition moves to the semi-finals stage. Each week for three weeks - beginning February 23 - the girls will perform Tuesdays and the boys Wednesdays. In a results show, airing each Thursday, the bottom two girls and bottom two boys will be eliminated.

The 12 finalists will take to the stage for the first time together on Tuesday, March 16. Thereafter performances air Tuesdays and results on Wednesdays, leading up to the season finale in May.

American Idol makes me sick.

Beastie 25-12-2009 10:45 PM

Cool. I do watch it but not religiously like The X Factor.

GypsyGoth 25-12-2009 10:49 PM

I really like the guest judge idea.

if i think of all the AM winners though:
Kelly Clarkson
Ruben Studdard
Fantasia Barrino
Carrie Underwood
Taylor Hicks
Jordin Sparks
David Cook
Kris Allen

and all TXF winners:
Steve Brookstein
Shayne Ward
Leona Lewis
Leon Jackson
Alexandra Burke
Joe McElderry

The AM winners have become much more successful, and also,,not only in their own country  i find too, that their singing is better, personalities...sometimes, VERY nice, sometimes (often) : Arrogant or Cocky.
and normally very self-confident.
But,however i still think that most AM - any contestant ,not only winners have got some fame,or new better career

Only 3 of those AI winners have became world wide famous.
Jordan, Carrie and Kelly.

But Leona is more successful than them 3 put together when you think about it..
Tbf its sort of obvious AI contestants would do well, You know what the Americans are like.. see abit of talent no matter how small, and they have to make the person seem like a massive super star lol

I did like Chris Daughtry out of AI though :)

I think XF Is a far better show than American Idol, we get more fun here.

A day later? Thats not bad. But does that mean they will have a show on wednedday and thursday, or just both on thursday? Either way, I dont like to wait, because I usually get spoiled as to who went home, before it airs here, so I always watch it live, the only problem is its at 1 am or 2 am.

And yeah, I agree, I hated last years stupid format, with the wildcard. I am gonna miss Paula though, Ellen is funny but I dont know how good of a judge she will be.
