Video game difficulty

Are video games now easier than they used to be? Has the difficulty level of games decreased as the graphics have improved over the year. They certainly at times seem a lot shorter now but has the difficulty of single player modes became easier?

I can remember when video games were just fields

Interestingly there are some games which actually prevent you from finishing it on lower difficulty levels (ones which optional difficulty levels). On those you HAVE to finish on harder difficulty levels to finish the game.

We're the ADD generation baby. Games have to adapt to that.

haven't really noticed

Games have gotten easier in general if I was being honest, but there are obvious exceptions. (scenario mode in Tekken 6 anyone?)

Trophy and achievement hunting can be brutal too.

Apart from Nightmare Train I didn't find SC that hard, Azazel on the other hand can ****. Worst.Tekken.Boss.Ever.

Games have difficulty levels that weren't around before plus achievements add optional challenges. Instead of a game being instantly hard it's more about it being as hard or easy as the player wishes really.

Games have gotten easier because single player is seen sadly as something disposable. If you want a challenge it's all about online.

Design evolution has a lot to do with it too. 2D, side scrolling games are always going to be much stricter and more mechanical than a 3D game where you can run around with a myriad of different tactics and choices to choose from.

Problem with online though is you get people who hax and use cheats in the game. Then they are all cocky at you because they beat you with their bot or hax.

Single player have generally been easier for a few years ago compared to the days of Mega Drive/Genesis and SNES etc although they have added extra difficulty levels on some.

I love the whole "can't complete unless on hard" idea. It rewards the better gamers which i am probably not one of unfortunately.

Some games are still hard, depends what difficulty you play on :3

I don't think that's a big enough problem to be taken seriously though. I mean, if you are playing on secure servers on PC or Xbox Live/PSN, how often are you likely on average to stumble into a game where hackers are dominating?

To be fair i don't play a lot of console online games since i have a good old fashion PS2 without Ethernet. I believe it's more common on PC games for haxing.

Different genres are easier than others. FPSs are easier than they were, whereas I think RPGs are much harder and longer.
