What the actual hell!

ARGH!

Today I went into town to get my friends birthday present, and I had absolutley no idea what to get him so I thought I would get him something they he could use to buy almost anything with. So I went into HMV to get him a gift voucher. and guess what.. THEY HAD NONE! They told me to come back in a few days. What the ****! I cant wait that long! Imagine if you went to mcdonalds and they said they had no chips and to come back another time. I was so angry. I had to get him a fcking itunes card instead. GRRR

Just give them the money, then. It's the same thing as the gift voucher, only better. A gift voucher is a cheap way of trying to appear to appeal to someones tastes and give a gift with 'meaning'.

I was thinking about doing that but my friend is already giving him money. His mum always gives him money anyway. lol

not really though, infact I was only saying today I must use the vouchers I got for christmas so I'll have to buy myself some clothes or something where as If I'd got money I would have used it for petrol or something stupid like that!

GhettoSuperstar 20-01-2010 09:07 PM

Money is money. That money you saved on petrol could be used on clothes and vice versa. The idea of a gift voucher being 'different' in any way other than being more limited is just a thought placed in your head by marketing and advertising expectations.

Yeah but the free choice still exists that you could have just bought clothes out of the hypothetical money and not petrol, hence why it's all in your head.

Smithy 20-01-2010 09:14 PM

It's not all in my head, I rarly go and buy myself clothes and wouldn't do if someone gave me money but I would with vouchers because I have no choice which sounds worse than getting money but for me it's good because I need to be forced to go and buy some clothes for myself.

And that's exactly what 'all in your head' refers to. You could have bought clothes out of money if you wanted but it took the gift vouchers to 'force' you to which is exactly why gift vouchers were created by companies as a marketing tool.

Just something I'm interested in. I don't mean 'all in your head' in a bad way.

I argee with Niamh, although vouchers are noway personal,it does mean you get to spend it on clothes or whatever. I've spend a lot of money I got for Christmas on food and train tickets.
