Simon Cowell's charity single for victims of the Haiti earthquake will reportedly be a cover version of REM's 'Everybody Hurts'.

The reality TV judge announced his plans for the benefit record at the National Television Awards last night.

Cowell has recruited singers Michael Bublé and Leona Lewis for the song, as well as fellow X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, says Sky News.

Other stars rumoured to be attached to the project include Beyoncé, Robbie Williams, Lady GaGa, Susan Boyle and Wyclef Jean.

Cowell is organising the effort after receiving a request from Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

"The agony and anguish for the people that we are seeing on our television screens is something that British people want to respond to," Brown said earlier today.
JLS and Rod Stewart are confirmed alongside Cheryl Cole and Leona Lewis. Full line-up revealed in 48 hours.

I can't help but cringe at the thought of Gordon Brown turning to Simon Cowell to "respond to" the Haitian earthquake... Sounds interesting though!

Fom 22-01-2010 10:57 AM

This sounds really good! Hope they get on to it quickly because the people need help now...

REM's manager has confirmed that the band's 'Everybody Hurts' has been chosen for Simon Cowell's Haiti charity appeal single.

Bertis Downs told The Sun that the band would waive their royalties on the 1993 single, which originally featured on the chart-topping Automatic For The People.

Downs said: "We are deeply touched the song has been chosen for this Haiti campaign.

"It means a lot that the song the guys wrote all those years ago will be used for such an important appeal."

Cowell said: "We are all working hard to make this single a success and to raise lots of money for Helping Haiti.

"We have a short time to do this and the people in Haiti need as much help as we can give them as soon as possible."

He added: "I'd like to make this record with as many different types of singer as we can and I hope everyone in the industry comes together to get involved. The initial response has been fantastic."

Isn't that like the most patronising song they could have covered? lol

Tom 22-01-2010 12:59 PM

Simon Cowell's pets strike again in some kind of weird super group

And could they have picked a more inappropriate song?!

I meant all of them, but wouldn't be suprised if Robbie did it. Another so called 'big name' to the group.

It's for charity,so whatever. If it raises money,it's all good.

True true, still a stupid song to pick though.

MrGaryy 22-01-2010 04:00 PM

the very thought of hearing some horrific bludgeoning of this already suicidal song by Leona, Joe and Cheryl ant the rest of Simon's cronies for the next two months makes me feel like cliff diving tbh.
