Channel 4 didnt axe big brother..
...Because of falling ratings! The contract was coming to an end anyway!
Its really starting to piss me off when they say it was "axed" in the media. Channel 4 dont wont the worry of big bro thats it! Big brother is still amazing and when people say it was axed then it kinda kills the shows credibility! |
But they didn't renew the contract, so technically it was axed...
|
Axed just means cancelled, bought to an end, not renewed.
|
Well lets be honest, they have been wanting to Axe it since CBB5 after that ***** Jade ruined everything anyway.
Its just aswell the contract was renewed after BB7, Then they had no way out and they had to do BB8, BB9, CBB6 and BB10. They announced during BB10 it would be axed, however they didnt just wake up one day and decide lets axe it because of the ratings. Endemol simply wanted the contract to be signed but Channel 4 said no because of the ratings, because of the race row that happened in 2007. And now they are regretting it as CBB7 became popular, and if BB11 Does even better, there going to feel like idiots for not signining that contract during 2009. |

But didn't the race row actually help the ratings with that show? They probably just have someone in charge of the channel who wants to go in a different direction (and they may want some money from the license fee).
|
The race row got good ratings yeah but not in a good way.
No channel wants to be broadcasting racism or be critisized for not interviening sooner Th race row has changed big brother emmencly and it has become very polliticaly correct ever since which is a shame |

Renewing the contract involves negotiating a whole new cost. They bought it for a period of time, that period will end. Period. They have nothing to cancel because it will end anyhow. |

The option to renew the contract lies with C4 - they decided not too, therefore it's axed. That is how almost all TV shows get axed - not that many get axed midway through contracts due to penalties which would need to be paid (hence why C4 didn't pull BB sooner - they stuck with it three years longer than they wanted too as they'd already paid for it).
C4 have also confirmed they won't be reconsidering their decision - rather foolish if you ask me. Yes, they shouldn't make any rash decision until BB11 airs, and probably shouldn't air a main series next year, but they should at least be open to the possibility and probably invite Endemol to pitch to them their ideas for a 2011 Celeb series along with other ideas for replacements. |
Somone posted the contract on here ages ago.

What can they put on for 13 weeks and draw in the viewers and be cheaper to produce.........Certainly not quality drama covering 13 weeks every day of the week would cost a good deal more than BB does......Most likely thay will dish up some tacky American series with the drama appeal of a snail on a day trip..... |
