C4 announces first Big Brother replacements

Channel 4 has announced the first two programmes that will be replacing Big Brother in 2011.

First is Notting Hill, which will follow the lives of a group of people from Notting Hill in a fast-turnaround weekly documentary, with an additional presence online.

Quote:

Lambert’s film crews will follow the lives of a group of characters from the west London neighbourhood and turn around an hour-long documentary each week. The title recalls the schmaltzy Richard Curtis feature film, while the format echoes Paddington Green, a long-running BBC series of a decade ago, which also followed real-life west London “characters”. The difference here is in the immediacy of a project which will have a strong online presence.

“No one quite knows what will |happen when the real world collides with the programme, because it is all happening in real time,” says Bellamy. “We are trying to sniff out those ideas that have a sense of unpredictability.”
Second is the Endemol-produced gameshow The Drop, which they 'plan to screen' across 'six nights of the week'.

Quote:

“It is live event meets game show,” he says. “I’m very interested in taking different genres and colliding them.” Contestants are given £1m, but must answer 10 questions or watch it all disappear through a series of trap doors.
Jonathan Ross could be on his way back to C4 too:
Quote:

Jonathan Ross is now back on the market. Is he coming back to Channel 4? “I’m a huge fan. I think he’s a brilliant talent. He’s a friend of the channel, he started at the channel. Certainly we are in touch and let’s see where it goes,” says Bellamy. “It would be wrong for me to go into too much detail but I would certainly say that we’ve been in touch. We know Jonathan well, he did a great thing for us at Christmas, The Big Fat Quiz. So let’s see what happens.”

Notting Hill Sounds a bit like the real world

The Real World London's house was actually in Notting Hill

So basically...Big Brother, just in a different format. I called this the other day. :bored:

I agree with DC, though, 'Notting Hill' sounds like The Real World.

At least we will have something to chat about then.

Yeah, I knew they'd replace Big Brother with a watered-down Big Brother. It's a bit insulting really.

So much for a creative overhaul.

As it's a weekly 'documentary' rather than a daily reality show, almost certainly not.

lol Ikr they even said..

'It will be intresting to see what happens when The Real World collides with the programme'

I will watch it if it is like the Real World, would be good to watch the RW on TV Instead of in front of a computer monitor, I just hope it can be as entertaining as the Real World.

I also hope all 3 of these shows fail, even if they are slightly good I just hope they fail just to make C4 regret axing BB.
Think about it C4s highest rated show is BB so without no one will have a need to watch it.

Bear in mind it's a documentary. They're clearly looking to keep people interested in the voyuerism of Big Brother without having the controversy.

Jonathan Ross slimes his way onto Channel 4? Talk about bottom feeding.

The drop sounds good.

MrGaryy 06-02-2010 08:20 PM

The Drop reeks of fail, sounds so boring.
Notting Hill is quite blatantly The Hills but in London.
I'd actually like Ross to come to C4.

Rob 13-04-2010 08:44 PM

c4 = failing

andybigbro 14-04-2010 06:49 PM

Raph 14-04-2010 06:58 PM
