Rio is the new captain

Alf 05-02-2010 07:06 PM

somebody clean cut whos a good role model to kids, because thats whats most important, who cares whats best for the team to be successful? thats not a priority.
someone like stewart downing, he's never had his private lfe brought to our attention, he can be captain sat on the subs bench, as long as he's a good role model to kids, who cares?

hang on, rio ferdinand got the job, is this the same rio that was given a 8 month ban for failing to turn up for a drug test, probably because he was snorting the charlie the night before,(dont try telling me footballers dont do that)

King Gizzard 05-02-2010 07:10 PM

Bang on right

To me its not about bloody role models, its about lifting that cup in the final

and to be fair kids can't do what JT did, so how is it a bad influence?

You two don't get it at all, do you? It's like a brick wall here. It's not just an act of indiscretion in his public life: this involves his professional one too. There's bound to have been some sort of affect on not just Bridge and Terry but the whole squad. I don't know why you two find that so difficult to understand.... have you played team sports before?

King Gizzard 05-02-2010 07:38 PM

Yeah In a football team for 4 years, captained on occasions. Theyre professionals. get paid yonks...they should deal with it like adults

setanta 05-02-2010 07:40 PM

It doesn't work that way, especially when the captain has been caught riding one of your teammates ex's, who he's had a child with and they've only just broken up. That could have devastating effects in the dressing room.

it's still gonna have effects in the dressing, taking the captaincy away wont change any conflicts that he and bridge may have in the future.

like i said earlier, john terry's role in the team is the leader, because he's the best man for that job, if you take that away from him you may as well take him out the team, because there's players out there who are just as good defenders as him, just that he is brilliant at his job of being team leader.

but anyway whats done's done, whatever i say cant change that, so here's to the future.

that's the last i'll say on the matter.

i played semi-pro for about 10 years, and i played with some right wa*kers who i didn't like or trust, but was team mate's when we steped on the pitch.

I think it should be David Beckham, if he is still in the team. Unfortunately, I think he will mainly be coming off the bench. But If I was to pick, he would be the one.

Off the regular starters though, It would either go, Gerrard, lampard, or cole! Just my POV of course.

other. Meryl Streep.

Rooney is volatile.. he shouts and swears at people.. he does the same to the ref..
Imagine every 10 minutes hes called over by the ref about one of his players...
He would be sent off every bloody game, hes not ready, and doubt he will be..

Lampard would be good.
Gerrard to.

Ferdinand would be okay, hes not the best player no more but hes great with the united defence.

exactly the reason he shouldnt be the captain, let him get on with his job

leader should always be a CB who can see all the play, and then let the creative players do there job without the burden of captaincy

But rooney is the only player i see who would die for the cause you know.
Gerrard isn't the same player for england as he is for Liverpool same for Lampard.

maybe your right but i think rooney would be great to lead England to the world cup finals

Lampard and gerrard are half the players they are for england then they are for their clubs.

But with Rooney at least he cares
