Age restrictions on lads mags & the like

Calls for restrictions on 'lads' mags' and music videos

Under-16s should be banned from buying so-called lads' mags, according to a new report put together for the government.

Other recommendations include banning music videos with too much flesh on show before the 9pm watershed and having tighter controls on computer games and the internet.

The report, carried out by psychologist Linda Papadopoulos, says too much sexual imagery is having a serious impact on children.

She said: "Children need to be guarded from all the messages they're given across all types of media.

"Girls are made to feel they have to be thin and sexy and men have to be macho."

Yeah I think there should be an age restriction on the porno magazines, however it is not going to stop people looking.

Ross 28-02-2010 03:48 PM

Lads mags aren't really porn though. FHM is just tits. Nothing wrong with tits.

That's how I see it, it's like a book of Page 3. Anybody can buy a copy of The Sun.

Princess 28-02-2010 03:51 PM

They're not that bad are they? Isn't it just boobs? I've bought a few gay ones whenever the boys are in them and they seem fine anyway.

Beastie 28-02-2010 03:52 PM

Some mags have vagina's and that! Lol I remember seeing pictures of cocks and a vagina from a magazine but I was naive back then and just forgot about it after I looked it at it. lol

Crimson Dynamo 28-02-2010 03:54 PM

they should be banned not for the boobs and minges but because they are rubbish. Google images is much better.

ILoveTRW 28-02-2010 03:57 PM

Having age restriction labels will actually cause more people to look. Its as good as an advert......

When I was a youngster under 18 but perhaps looked around 18 "X" rated film were a must see but if the "X" rating had not been there I wouldn't have bothered......The censorship clowns of this country will never learn they are making matters worse.......

Lads mags are pretty tame harmless stuff and rating them is quite ridiculous.......

Z 28-02-2010 04:11 PM

FHM doesn't even show nipple; it's Loaded that does that. I was always under the impression you had to be a certain age to buy those magazines anyway?

My understanding is that currently there are no age restrictions on lads mags....The age restriction laws apply to Hard core mags only........

What we really need to restrict are psychologists and their crazy theories of human behavour............If they really understood human psychology they would know rating a product is as good as baiting a product to be seen at all costs,,,,,,

Linda Popadolopoplous or however you spell it is fit

however on this occasion she is talking complete ****e. age restrictions make younger people more likely to do something. as arista would say,

Fact.

Jack_ 28-02-2010 04:27 PM

As far as I'm aware, magazines like Nuts/Zoo don't have age restrictions on them from the companies themselves, but quite a lot of supermarket chains and stores choose to put their own restrictions on.

So for example, I can't buy Nuts in Somerfield, as you have to be over 18, but in my local newsagents, Co-Op etc, they don't care.

She is fit in body but not in mind.........Psychology is like astrology. "FALSE"

There is only one predictable thing about human nature and that is its unpredicatable and unreadable with any degree of accuracy......

A lot of what psychologists say is all built up based on studies and its about likelihood etc and a lot of it makes good sense. But I think predicting behaviour and body language etc is all a load of crap.

 Sure some of it may make sense because statistically one is unlikely to be wrong all of the time.......The thing is is the science sound studies or no studies..I would say definitely not........Any man in the street will make judgments about behavour just as accuratel as any psychologist and their fancy words and categories of behavour......Judging behavour is all down to common sense and probability of being right or wrong........Bit like tossing a coin........Some you win some you lose......

Most mags dont show complete female nudity.
Its not porn.

But surely banning Under 16s from buying them will make it even worse, you know what its like, when your told not to do something, you feel the need to do it, just to rebel and prove a point, so more Under 16s would go on the internet then.... the issue wont go away if they ban Under 16s.

Its a part of life, i dont see whats so bad about it, most teenagers mature and understand earlier, even though porn is no where near what the experience of sex uis like (well for most anyway), I dont see what the big problem

Surely we should be concentrating on peadophiles, rapists and murderers, they should be the top priority and how to bring those scumbags down and in jail. Thats more important.

Anyways, Zoo and all that dont have restrictions, we were told to bring these mags in PSHE in Year 10 (when we were 14-15) for a PSHE topic project and they allowed all of to buy one, I was 14 at the time.

Shasown 28-02-2010 04:51 PM

Gone are the days where chuff mags used to grow in woods.

Hardcore porn is too available on the internet for youngsters, the content of Lads mags is hardly hardcore, it doesnt even really make it to softcore. Its for titillation, nothing more. I would have thought she would waste her time complaining more about hardcore access on the net.

Porn never done me or my friends any harm, excuse me am off for a five finger shuffle:wink:

Titanic was a 12 rated film, and they showed boobs... complainers? Dont think so :D becaus eit was in 1997, things are taken too seriously now. A 23 year old having a drink is considered to be slaggish behaviour now.

I love going into the Mace in the morning with my mate to buy our lunch and I always pick up a copy of Nuts or Zoo.

Have a look at it at Lunch Time ;)

But this is artical is bollocks, do they actually think that is helping kids?

Lets look at it this way..

1. Sex Education isnt even taught the way it should be in school.
2. Porn is a good thing
3. The internet >> Magazines
4. They ****ing go on about teaching teens how to have safe sex, well then let teenagers look at this stuff especially porn, most the time the pornstars wear a condom!
5. Do they actually think by doing this its going to stop teens knowing what a pussy looks like or how big a Tit can be?

Seriously the pricks who come up with this stuff are just angry because they have gone 10 years without getting abit.

Beastie 28-02-2010 05:20 PM

Lol Patrick! :joker:

Tom4784 28-02-2010 05:25 PM

How ridiculous, I'm guessing The Sun will fall under these rules then? We've become too tightly round. All you see is tits, boobs, lady lumps ETC, look at central european countries, they've got a more open attitude about sex and I think in another topic somebody posted an article saying that teen pregnancy happens less because of it (I think the example that was used was Sweden or Finland). It's measures like this that will ultimately be more damaging then looking at a pair of boobs in Nuts, plus most children don't have an interest until puberty anyway whre it's natural to be curious. All these measures will only lead to an unhealthy attitude towards sex what will only damage children in their futures.

The point about girls feeling pressured to look a certain way doesn't really fly in this case, glamour models are curvy when do you ever see a skinny one? I think it's better to try to imitate a curvy figure then it is to be stick thin like the models in the fashion magazines anyway.

Patrick 28-02-2010 05:28 PM

I LOLed when Stephen Baldwin was like 'The UK Papers are alot more intresting than the United States, if you open a british paper you see a womens breast.. in the New york times, we dont have that. We would never be allowed that'

Made me feel really proud to be in a country were the Daily Star was there if I ever felt lonely.. but they better not do this bollocks too and get rid of our beloved Page 3 Girls.

Do you think porn mirrors sex? For example do you honestly believe that women out there, even the slags, will let the gas man take them up the bum when he comes round to read the meter?
