Should they bring Titanic Home for 2012?

There have been a few articals I have read about plans to re-build the Titanic in Belfast.
Some are saying it will include a Cinema,Restraunt,Gift Shop.. others are saying Hotel,Cruise Ship or Muesum.

The first artical was posted in 2000.
Read Here

The second and most recent artical was 2008.
Read Here

So that 2nd Artical tells us that they would basically confirm it in Summer 2008.

Summer 2008 has came, and what a lovely time it was but its 2 years ago now.

And they didnt get back to us.

There are still some rumours going about here in Belfast of this happening, apperantly its going to be built beside the Odyssey Arena, just the front of the Titanic.

I think this would take ages to make am I right?
People on Youtube are discussing how they think this will be made in 2012 for Titanic's 100th Anniversary.

I can tell you now from living here, that theres no sign what so ever of the Titanic being rebuilt, I hate saying that.
As if its being rebuilt to go out at sea lol

So they basically have 2 years left before 2012 to get this done.

2010 Is going fast isnt it!

I think its unfair how California have a Titanic Muesum, with parts from the ship.
Belfast has basically I guess you could say **** all with the Titanic.
As the Americans took it all.

Theres an exibit on yearly at the Odyssey Arena with bits and bobs from the ship but I think the least they could do is build the Titanic again.

Like one of those articals said, it would be good for tourists and stuff.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?
I searched through google and havent found any statments saying 'It cant be done' or 'No we arent doing it'
They all seem pretty positive but say 'We will confirm it soon' and still havent, so wtf is keeping them?

Would you go to see the Titanic Rebuilt, and go inside it?
Would you be in favour of this happening?
Do you think it can happen?
What else do you think of the possibility of the Titanic being remade in Belfast?

I found some images of what it would look like here if the 'Titanic II' Plan were to happen, IMO it looks nice.
And actually shows it was made here, if im honest with you, you wouldnt have a ****ing clue it was made in Ireland, they have a couple of posters down near the docks saying 'Titanic Quater' or 'Titanic was made here' Thats it.

I was shocked reading Yahoo Answers at the ammount of idiots who thought the Titanic was built in America yet it was sailing to New york :joker:

So heres the pictures:

A new Channel 4 series will challenge four skilled men and women to rebuild integral parts of Titanic.

This new primetime series for Channel 4 (UK) and National Geographic (USA) will explore an extraordinary era of industrial history and bring to life the truly colossal task that was achieved in the construction of Titanic. An ambitious building challenge will be at the core of each episode. Using traditional Edwardian techniques, machinery and materials, the team will rebuild or restore integral parts of the legendary vessel.

The series will not just focus on Titanic, but will also explore the larger topics of British industry and Edwardian manufacturing, as well as the social history of this era.

We’re looking for passionate engineers, construction workers, architects and designers who have worked on large-scale projects… people with applicable skills who are also happy to be hands-on. These individuals will head up the pioneering team that will take on this exciting challenge.

Titanic was cursed from the start. And the actual ship that sank was not the original titanic

Shasown 01-03-2010 11:38 PM

Seems like a good scheme to generate work for locals craftsmen etc, would be nice to see something dedicated to the Titanic in Belfast, just so long as its nothing that will go to sea
.

Are you one of those that belive the sank ship was the Olympic?

It doesnt matter if it was 'cursed' from the start, point is it sank, yes it would be a very bad idea if they were to set the 'Titanic II' out to sea with people on it, but they wouldnt.

It would scare people away, I ment building the replica on land.

Patrick 01-03-2010 11:42 PM

Why is it 4 people have said No, but none have given a reason? pmsl

It's a fact I think. And yeah, no point calling a ship the Titanic II or anything, plenty of cruise ships that are better out there.

Is there anything to back it up?
Im not going against it tbh.

I dont think they would call it Titanic II if im honest, and it wouldnt be a cruise ship.
It would literally stick out from a wall lol

The Titanic was a very rare event. No ship these days would hit an iceberg.

Heres a link to a web page that puts forward one of the Olympic/Titanic conspiracy theories

http://library.thinkquest.org/18626/SSwitch.html

But to swap ships would be a bit, lets say obvious, wouldnt a lot of people have to be involved.

The Titanic is history.
Keep it a mystery!

GhettoSuperstar 02-03-2010 12:21 AM

I dont get what you mean by keeping it a mystery when the Americans have basically took half of the items from it to California.

I think it should be built here just due to the fact it was built here, where as it seems other countries are actually showing more of an intrest than here, I actually emailed the council about this earlier :joker::joker:

:laugh2: I think the experience of the Titanic is a mystery. Being on the actual ship. I wouldn't like it to be rebuilt. Just my opinion.

Oh right thats what you ment :joker: Fair enough, it is good to imagine what it would of been like on the ship so I suppose what you mean is if they build it again then it would just take all the imagination out of thinking what it was like all those years ago lol.

I just read on TheSun.co.uk that they 'were going to build one in Southampton' :joker: Thats taking the piss.

I know its not true, at least it better not bloody be as it would make no sense, right? :joker:

Harry! 02-03-2010 06:14 AM

No. Keep the Titanic left where it is, It is like lifing a body from a grave. Keep it there.

Sticks 02-03-2010 06:53 AM

I think the recession probably killed this project off stone dead.

Tom 02-03-2010 10:32 AM

They should never raise it. Ever. Leave it where it is. Plus its lodged into the sea bed now anyway.

I'm in 2 minds about whether they should build a replica as some kind of museum. On one hand it would be quite good and interesting, but on the other hand it would ruin the legacy. But if they ever do do it, it would be best to happen in Southampton and use it as some kind of memorial too.

And it wasn't the Olympic that sunk either whoever said that- they've retrieved parts of the Titanic with the Titanic's number on it. And the Titanic is a slightly different shape which is the shame at the bottom of the Atlantic. But Olympic got the Titanic's original propeller.

Patrick 02-03-2010 03:49 PM

LOL Guys, I didnt say RAISE it, alot of you seem to be replying as if I think it should be brought back from the Atlantic.

That would be horrible for 2 reasons:

1. It would upset alot of people.
2. Its dangerous as the thing could crumble to peices and that would ruin History.

I simply ment, if its a good idea for them to build a replica in the City it was made for its 100th Anniversary.

Oh right, thanks for clearing that up.

Southampton is where it sailed from, and as a result thats where most people who died were from. It was heavily affected- almost everyone in Southampton was directly affected and 500 homes lost a member.
