Organ Donation

Just been thinking about this a lot over the past while becuase its been in the media a lot. What do you think of organ donation? I mean if you could help someone to live when your gone would you do it?

Crimson Dynamo 08-03-2010 01:47 PM

It should be compulsory

pinkmichk 08-03-2010 01:48 PM

i have thought about this a lot cos i give blood so its something that has come up more than once i'm still not sure where i stand on it

Princess 08-03-2010 01:49 PM

I don't see what people have against it. You don't need your organs when you're dead and you could save lives as well.

Vicky. 08-03-2010 01:51 PM

Im on the donor list. I dont see what good my organs are to me once Im dead...might aswell help someone else.

There should be some way you can say the sort of person they should go to though, these alchololics who get second livers and knack them up too because they wont stop drinking, shouldnt have had a second chance in the first place...if someone is ill by their own doing, then I dont want to help them, selfish as it sounds, would rather help a child who was born ill or something.

You dont stand on it your stick it in the person who needs it. :nono:

Niamh. 08-03-2010 01:51 PM

absolutely agree with it, I don't understand peoples reasons for not agreeing with it. Why have your organs rot and feed some worms when they could have saved a life?

Well there's a priority list, whoever needs organs the most gets them first but only if the organs are a match. On Grey's Anatomy they had this thing where an alcholic had to be sober a year before getting any organs,I don't know if it's the same over here.

There should be.

I still think people who are genuinely ill should get help first though, instead of someone who has made themselves like that.

Do you mean such as smokers or drinkers?

Tom4784 08-03-2010 01:55 PM

I'm all for it, I won't need them when I'm dead.

My partner says he wont, 'because I dont want to'...he also has a problem with me saying I would do it...he seems to think if I die he has some sort of right to say that they cant cut me up...

Then again maybe we should ban all smokers and drinkers from receiving any care in the NHS.

Would they then ask for the tax on their poisons be used to set up a health service for themselves? That would pretty much knacker the NHS.

Indeed, it's a complicated matter, didn't say I agree or disagree with what treatment they get.

Well...its not so much not caring...its more i think people who are ill through no fault of their own should be priority...which seems fair to me. Maybe I look at things the wrong way, I dont know, but Ive always thought like that.

yeah, I just can't think why they wouldn't though, I mean It can't be religious reasons cos it's only your soul goes, I mean no religions believe that you actually need your body after Death do they?

Yeah, I think it has to be done on an individual case, some people who should stop for their health dont.

Its when they dont want to stop but receive the benefits and still go back to unhealthy ways.

Mind you cant exactly take them back in and rip out the replcement organs, can you?

I dotn think so I know Egyptian God's thought that they needed their organs and stuff for afterlife....

Princess 08-03-2010 02:02 PM

Yeah, isn't that what happened with George Best? And yeah, it's not good if you get a second chance at life, and then throw it back in the tax payers faces. Although it does wake some people up though to be fair.
