This is a horrid squalid story. It would seem that the overweight victim sought male attention online because she was getting none face to face - because she was overweight. She was then picked off by a sadistic killer.

Mr Reeds said the teenager suffered from low-esteem and often boys were not interested in her.

'According to her friend, Ashleigh was interested in boys but they, generally, were not interested in her,' Mr Reeds said.

'She is thought to have had low self-esteem and friends thought if a male did show her attention she would likely be flattered by it.'

The mother is overweight. Now I do not want to detract from her grief or add to it but should mothers not ensure that (especially) their daughters do not become fat in their teenage years. The victims diet almost inevitably will be made up of high sugar high fat items with little fruit or veg and I would wager no exercise.

Fat girls will not get boys or attention. Obviously 99.99% will not be murdered but they will still have a horrible adolescence?

Parents have a huge responsibly to their children to make sure they have good diets. Children who are fat because of what they eat, I think is absolutely the parents fault. My kids would eat sweets all day long If I let them.

The fact she was overweight had nothing to do with it. He was just praying on a vulnerable young girl.

Yeah, of course her being over weight does not make her responsible for being killed that's an idiotic thing to say! It's like saying that a girl who wears a short skirt should expect to get raped!

The problem with your thread is, its title and everything AROUND your comments, seem to emphasize that the main reason why this happened, is because somehow, this girls parents, didnt make sure she wasnt fat. And thats why she got murdered. Thats a bit sick if you ask me!

Yeah he probably thought someone overweight might be easier to manipulate, but if it wasnt her, it couldve been anyone else, overweight or not. They can all fall for it!

Basically, what I am trying to say is, your priorities, really arent in the right order in this case.

I am pretty much really appaled that someone like him, and his background be put in a position to harm again! I think the system failed that girl, and failed him as well. BUt her being overweight, should never be in the discussion. SOme people are overweight when they are teens. SOme are just overweight. Its not a crime to be so, nor should it be!

Whilst the thread deals with a horrific murder the topic is more about fat teenage girls and why it is very important that parents and schools should do everything that is humanly possible to avoid obesity at this crucial time in a childs development.

This case highlights an extreme but it also highlights the misery of being a fat teenage girl.
