That is unbelievable! I could perhaps understand if she didn't want to participate in an abortion or something - but to refuse to dispense the contraceptive pill is ridiculous. Who does she think she is? Her job entails a certain degree of responsibility - she can't just pick and choose what medications to dispense - otherwise why be a pharmacist!

Part of many jobs - is sometimes doing what you don't want to do - religious objections shouldn't be a excuse!

Tom4784 09-03-2010 06:02 PM

I hope the right actions are taken against the pharmacist. It's completely ridiculous.

:shocked::shocked::shocked:

Callum 09-03-2010 06:09 PM

Disgusting, hope she gets sacked for this.

Doesn't matter whether she wanted it for pain or not - she was fully entitled to use it and be dispensed the contraceptive pill for the purpose for which it is intended!

Yes Catholics or, I would guess, Muslims - although I may be wrong about that!

InOne 09-03-2010 06:18 PM

I think the woman who didn't serve her must have other mental issues tbh. Just does not add up

Nope I dont know of any papal bull(proclamation from the pope) saying catholic pharmacists cannot dispense some types of drugs. contraceptive or otherwise.

In fact the only decrees from the Vatican say Catholics should not use unnatural contraceptive methods. This lady was using a drug, that happens to be used for birth control to help ease her endometriosus.

Selling, dispensing or otherwise handling them of contraceptives wasnt ever taught to be against the church. otherwise the barber we used to use when I was a kid would have been well in the clag.in fact I remeber him saying just after he had finished on the parish priests hair "Sure you will not be wanting anything for the weekend this time round Father?"

You What,
You need to get out More.

These Bible Freaks are in many places.

That Worker was using the Bible to stop that Lady
getting what she needed.

Depends on the school of Islam they follow, in most contraception is allowed for valid reasons, one of them being health. The only agreed case where contraception should not be used is if the decision is delay children is based on finances, because the Muslims believe god will provide.

I presume the woman has no choice in such matters - and can't choose when she is ready to have a baby! She probably can't choose whether she wants sex or not - if married!

Yes, but she is an extreme example.

Would love to be a fly on the wall watching them debate this garbage if a complaint is actually made:

Quote:

The spokesman said:'While the Code of Ethics and Standards does not require a pharmacist to provide a service that is contrary to their religious or moral beliefs.

Any attempt by a pharmacist to impose their beliefs on a member of the public seeking their professional guidance, or a failure to have systems in place to advise of alternative sources for the service required, would be of great concern to the RPSGB and could form the basis of a complaint of professional misconduct.'
Is telling her to come back when someone else is on, sufficient?

Again depends on the school in some cases a man is to honour a wifes wishes but a wife is to obey her husband etc...

Pill refused 'on religious grounds'

A pharmaceuticals company has launched an investigation after a woman was refused the contraceptive pill because it was against the pharmacist's religion to give it to her.

Janine Deeley was turned away by the female chemist at Lloyds pharmacy in Duke Street, Sheffield, when she went to pick up her routine prescription of the medication.

The mother-of-two was taken into a private room by the employee and told she would not be given the tablets on religious grounds but she could come back the next day when a different pharmacist was working and pick them up.

Ms Deeley, 38, of Wybourn, said she was furious she was not allowed her prescription, especially because she used it to treat endometriosis and not as a method of birth control.

She told the Sheffield Star: "I shouldn't have to explain myself to her.

"I was so angry I didn't really know what to do."

Ms Deeley also said she was worried teenagers like her two daughters, Carlie, 18, and 14-year-old Lauren, might not be able to protect against pregnancy if faced with such issues.

She added: "There's a lot of things in society you might not like or agree with, but you can't do anything about them."

A spokeswoman for Lloyds pharmacy said she was not aware which religion the pharmacist belonged to and an investigation into Ms Deeley's complaint had been launched.

She said: "Lloyds pharmacy is very sorry that Ms Deeley was refused supply of her prescribed contraceptive pill at our Duke Street pharmacy. We have launched an investigation into the incident and been in contact with her to apologise for any distress and inconvenience caused."

What a load of bull! This pharmacist should be sacked. Never mix work and religion, especially when it's concerning another person's health.

Stu 09-03-2010 08:46 PM

It's my belief that my religion entitles me to take a day off whenever I want.

There. Will you respect my beliefs?
