When Does Confidence Become Cockyness?

Some people use the term 'over confident' to describe somebody as being cocky, but I think being over confident can either define somebody who is cocky or just generally too sure of themselves without giving it another thought, but does not have an attitude (relaxed about it rather than gobbing off).

Its a thin line between the 2 imo, but when somebody uses their confidence to big themself up too much, is when I think a person is cocky.

What about you's? :)

People who regularly attempt to undermine and belittle other people's opinions and infer they always know best! Mind you - it is nearly always show - people like that usually have a massive chip on their shoulder!

To me over confidence would indicate a mistaken belief in ones ability. Whereas cockiness would be being good and knowing it, just like me.

I was just thinking of ideas for a serious debate thread as I dont post much in here, and this came to my head.

Freddie was amazing, dont think he got cocky, just defensive!

When you act on your confidence and do something that you are confident in. Like the way when you discriminate you act on your predudice.

Confidence is good sometimes, depending on the person really, and the situation.
Over-confidence and cockiness i would say, is when someone thinks they are always right, and know best. :bored:
however, it can be interpreted in the wrong way.

:nono: he just tried to be confident in himself - people knocked that down.

Those who from delusions of grandeur are often cocky

I liked him, but in his final days when he started acting like a 'Prized Noddy' as Bea would say, thats when I didnt like him because he was like 'Well im staying'

Marcus would say 'I hope I go' and Freddie would reply with 'Aw dont worry, you will.'

And even when they had an argument in the Alice In Wonderland Task, Lisa said 'You know what 'alfwit I hope the public see you for what you are and you know what they will!' and he was like 'Oh Lisa they've kept me in 6 times now im loved'

I agree, I hate cocky people. :bored:

And Danyl did appear to be cocky at the start for me, but the week he had his hair cut and basically said he wants to restart is the week I thought he wasnt any longer and actually quite liked him by the end of it. :)

Stacey. 12-03-2010 05:33 PM

i think Freddie did start to become cocky towards his departure.
but, i dont think it mattered really - it suited him. :)

He went through so much crap I guess I was happy he stood up for himself, probably went the wrong way about it but meh, Lisa was awful to him.

And Marcus wanted to go and imo I think Freddie thought the audience would vote Marcus out for him.

Btw never use a Bea quote against Freddie, she was pure vileness. :nono:

Marcus was just as cocky really. He used his arrogance in a form of cockyness.

yeh, Marcus was definitely cocky!
especially after he survived the 'Freddie eviction'.
but again, it sort of suited him :)

MrGaryy 12-03-2010 06:03 PM

I personally find arrogance very endearing, it makes me want to break it down and get the the real person. and it's hot.

this. Freddie really got on my nerves towards the end!

I am confident, but no where near cocky.

The line is when people only care for themselves and hurt others emotionally on the way and is not willing to hear out what other people are saying and thinking they are always right (ignorance as well).

One thing I hate in life are people who are arrogant. Its not cool to be arrogant. If this girl is very stunning but arrogant with her looks it will put me off her a lot.
They say personality is key and it is. I mean i dont think i can deal with being with a girl who offends people who are "uglier" than her and looks herself in the mirror every 5 seconds.

Yes I have just thought about Freddie.
It was such a shame.

But I still like him. He is a good man.:)
