Politician says Lady GaGa Promotes Rape

Quote:

(NewsCore) - A senior member of an Australian state government claims that young men believe women are "fair game" for rape and abuse because of the "poisonous" influence of pop stars like Lady Gaga and Beyonce, the (Sydney) Sunday Telegraph reported.

In a sexually explicit speech, Labor Whip Greg Donnelly used a debate in the upper house of New South Wales Parliament about International Women's Day to claim that raunchy acts like Lady Gaga were twisting gender relations by "horrible, coarse sexualization" of young girls.

His comments have triggered uproar among female members of Parliament, who have accused the former shop assistants' union official of being "gratuitous."

Donnelly described acts of rape, sexual harassment and group sex to illustrate his point that young girls were becoming overly sexualized and that, as a consequence, they were targets for aggressive male desire.

"Young boys may start to think that women and young girls are fair game and that they can go to a party on the weekend, get loaded up with grog and that it's their right to ask a young girl for a head job or for anal sex or to push a young woman up against a wall and have sex," Donnelly, a right-wing Catholic, told Parliament Thursday night.

"Some members are grimacing, but that is the reality,” Donnelly said. “This material agitates a mindset in young boys, who grow into men, that women are fair game and that such behavior really doesn't matter; that they can get loaded up with grog or drugs and everything is OK."

Opposition Liberal Member of Parliament (MP) Catherine Cusack said Donnelly's speech was out of line.

"He is trying to say the hypersexualization of girls gives guys an excuse to treat girls as sexual objects, and that is the cause of violence against women, which is disgraceful," Cusack said. "It's a perverted theory and it appalls me."

Greens MP Lee Rhiannon said it was a gratuitous, inappropriate speech.

"Many MPs of his own party were embarrassed," she said. "He should not be the Whip of the party."
Obviously this guy is talking ****.
But ....... Do you think that women nowadays dressing so ermmmm skimpy-ish is the cause for men seeing women as sexual objects?

Somebody's fear mongering for votes.....

The idea that a girl's style is an excuse for rape is stupid and offensive as it places a degree of blame on the victim and turns them into a scapegoat. Rapists rape because they're sick in the head, it's got less to do with sexual urges and more to do with power. It's nothing to do with how someone dresses or their attitude.

I think she promotes female power more than anything. She doesnt pander to male sexuality like so many other female artists do(hi Mariah). Her imagery is mostly freakshow rather than alluring. ***** knows we need more of this in these Parishilton/Jordan/wag times where young females aspire to be dumb celebs with no use or talent whatsoever.

As far as sexual influence goes.; she ain't doing anything Madonna wasn't doing years back. Indeed, Madonna paved the way and took the flack for the future likes of Gaga. That lezbo kiss in Telephone is a direct Madonna influence. But not a peep about it by the press. Unlike when Madonna did it.

I think that her utter reliance on sex to get her message and songs across is quite lame and unimaginative but then that is what all female singers rely on as they have not got the balls to do anything else
