Tories Launch Poster Campaign

2 Attachment(s)
The Tories have launched a brutal poster campaign designed by the advertising firm credited with sweeping Margaret Thatcher to power in 1979.

In a highly personal attack, the posters depict Gordon Brown's smiling face alongside sarcastic "Vote for me" slogans.

The new campaign, created by M&C Saatchi, includes the slogan: "I took billions from pensions - vote for me" and "I let 80,000 criminals out early - vote for me".

Previously known as Saatchi and Saatchi, the firm was the architect of the famed "Labour isn't working" campaign depicting a long snaking dole queue.

The new posters are a turn-around from the Conservatives' previous efforts, which drew criticism for the "airbrushing" of smooth-looking leader David Cameron.

The Tories are now putting Mr Brown at the heart of their campaign because they believe he is a vote-winner for them. They seek to capitalise on his socially awkward demeanour and unlikely smiles during appearances on YouTube.

The posters - which will be displayed on 850 poster sites in England and Wales from Monday - also accuse the Prime Minister of increasing the gap between the rich and poor, and causing record youth unemployment.

Shadow schools secretary Michael Gove said: "Gordon Brown is asking people to vote him in for another five years but he and his tired Government will just make things worse."

If they're playing so cheaply and underhanded just to win the election what will they be like in power? It speaks more about them really and the strength of their policies if they have to reosrt to tactics like this.

Have to agree with that, I dont think either of the two major political parties are capable of leading the country effectively.

If they're true or not is irrelevant, the point is that instead of promoting their policies or plans they've gone on the attack. It positively screams to me that the policies can't stand on their own if they resort to this behavior.

The only thing I can gleam about the tories from these posters is that they act like a bunch of bitchy schoolgirls, It tells me nothing about the Tories campaign apart from that they're playing dirty.

They may not have the posters designed yet but they are planning personal attacks. A focus group had looked at posters of him with negative comments on it.

A senior Labour party insider said mocked-up images of Osborne standing outside 11 Downing Street had been tried out on the focus groups and had drawn very negative responses.

Exactly, thats why I think neither side really has the policies nor the personalities necessary to lead.

But what does it say about the party playing the dirty tactics?

Unless you're from an upper middle class family or above then a vote for the Tories is silly. Anyone from a lower middle class or working class family that votes for the Tories will deserve what they get when they come to power.

Jayson 28-03-2010 04:57 PM

I could've made better posters than those...
