So the Sugababes are tanking ...

Can anything stop it this time? New album? Better promo? New member? :joker:

New album charted at #14 2 weeks ago and is no longer in the top 40, worst charting album since the first one (ironically not the three now)

Their latest 2 singles charted at 8 and 7 respectively, the latter of which peaked 2 weeks ago and is now already at 39.

So it is finally all over for them after 4 line ups or can they rescue themselves from here?

Novo 29-03-2010 10:32 PM

Oi tom

ain't seen you on here for a bit

ILoveTRW 29-03-2010 10:33 PM

Sugababes always seem to be tanking, even when they are at no1 lol

Shaun 29-03-2010 10:36 PM

ha. fails.

MrGaryy 29-03-2010 10:36 PM

They've been dropped from Roc Nation too.

They actua;ly have gotten loads of promo for each single but it just isnt taking off at all. Kind of a pity, the album is alright.

Its what happens when you sign up someone who literally is Alexandra Burke merged into Leona Lewis ... and it ends up as a poor mans version of them, who in turn ........ :joker:

I understand why the album failed but on another note I don't understand why 'About A Girl' only done mediocre. It's an amazing tune.

I really hope they stay together for their love of music. They are flopping so badly just now, so it wouldn't hurt to try and rise above it.

They were never signed to Roc Nation...

The single positions aren't that bad, but I'll admit it's been a disaster. It's a shame because it's a really good album, one of the best this year IMO.
I think they'll survive.
They need to close this era with a good single, preferrably 'Little Miss Perfect', 'Crash & Burn' or 'She's A Mess' methinks.

Then they can start completely fresh on the next album.
New lineup, brand new material - actual Jade/Heidi/Amelle material [as opposed to Jade covering Keisha's parts]
&move on from all the negativity of this era.

The whole concept of this album was doomed from the second it was announced; the Sugababes never have been and never will be the type of band to release a "club record". If they get the chance to record a new album, which I hope they do, they should go back to the roots of the Sugababes for inspiration.

Zippy 30-03-2010 01:53 PM

Sugababes have always been up n down in popularity. They usually fade off then bounce back with a big single. I think their promotion was messed up with the line up change. That first single is crucial to an albums success.

But maybe its one change too far. No originals left now so its like a whole new group.

The second line up is arguably the most recognised and the one that is the most commercially successful. Without the second line up they would have faded into obscurity. And its with their third line up where they had their biggest selling single. So its not really as black and white as "there are no originals left".

MarkWaldorf 30-03-2010 02:47 PM

It flopped because it was pushed back about 5 times. I think they even had the nerve to push it back 2 weeks before it's final release date. I'm pretty sure people just didn't care enough to go out and buy it or had no idea when it was out.

M X 30-03-2010 03:19 PM

Although I like their new album, the Sugababes are now a complete joke. It's just like a total new band, using the originals name and their songs. Cheap, really.
&it's a shame really.
r.i.p sugababes
jade should have done a solo album!

Jessica. 30-03-2010 03:31 PM

"This axe has been in my family for 500 years, we only had to change the head twice and the handle three times."
I just remembered that from somewhere and it reminded me of The Sugababes
I love the new album to be fair.

Firewire 30-03-2010 03:34 PM

The album is actually really good.

I just think it's because of what Mark said with the album being pushed back. Also I think because technically it isn't actually the Sugababes anymore. But whatever.

Enid 30-03-2010 05:39 PM

They don't have the sexy/bad girl attitude they once had, with Mutya. Freak Like Me was great.

Stu 30-03-2010 05:46 PM

And only that because of the Gary Numan sampling.

Shaun 30-03-2010 05:53 PM

the last good song they had was Push The Button.

Shaun 30-03-2010 06:18 PM

meh. meh. don't know it. meh. ew.

'Conor 30-03-2010 06:51 PM

the album is deffo my fav from them ! About a girl is one of my favourite pop songs ever i think the album flopped because of the bad press they have been getting and of push backs, promo nd album leaking on internet one month before!

love every song on the album

Tom 30-03-2010 06:51 PM

I like About You Now.

Not sure on much of their other stuff

2k9david2k10 31-03-2010 12:11 AM

i really like the new line up of sugarbabes but jade has not had the right song for her voice i think they should re reliase this version of freak like me :P
