Why is the prize money so small?
 

I realized that the prize money for BBUK is quite small, only 100,000 pounds, which is 150,000 in dollars. BBUS gives 500,000 dollars to the winner and 250,000 to the runner up. But it seems like BBUK winners should get more money since the show goes on much longer.

Do you think they should raise the prize money for the final series?

it used to be even lower than that, 70,000 pounds and in BB5 the winner only got 64,000!

I've always thought the prize fund should be raised but I very much doubt it will happen now as Channel 4 just don't have the money for that sort of thing.

Rachel didn't get 100,000 did she? And Anthony only got 50,000.

Because most the winners dont deserve it.

Plus they dont really care about the money tbh anymore, its the fame they want.
And tbh I would rather have fame than a thousand odd pounds.

I guess it makes sense. BBUK housemates get fame, BBUS housemates get a load of cash. I guess that's what makes BBUS a bit more competitive.

Well they really only get 15 minutes of fame.

I think saying they get fame is pushing it really.

If i has a say the prize fund would be £0.

The experience alone sould be worth more then any proze money.

Initially I guess the competition aspect was secondary to the concept of filming people living in a house together. £70k was always an odd amount, but I think they went with it as it was roughly equivalent to the prizes dished out in the European versions.


Ironically I think £100,000 seems to be a much bigger prize now than it did a couple of years ago - partly due to the recession, partly due to various premium rate phone in scandals seeing prizes on other game shows dropped - although if the show had revamped as it should have done in recent years, I would have upped the prize money to £250,000 - a nice sizeable amount, but not enough to make it all about the money, which £1m would do.

People dillude themselves into thinking they can earn more than 100 grand outside the BB house. Well infact this is unfortunately true if you are a good looking young female such as the twins or Chanelle Hayes who have earnt more than a million! Or there is Jade Goody.. who has done.. everything to get money.. I think she has earnt like 8 million.. probably more than that since she got the cancer..

I think 100 grand is enough and the prize money should be counted down if they break the rules.. or actually I think I prefer the idea the prize fund starts from ZERO and works its way up!!

Yeah I agree with Alec that the experience is probably worth more than the money? well I don't know.. if I was offered like 10 grand in the first week but had to be evicted I would choose to stay.. if I was offered 100 grand in the first week to go.. then I would probs take the money and run.. ahh I don't know! but omg it is so bloody exciting!!

We need fresh new people! You can see different page 3 models in the Sun everyday! Okay we can have ONE wannabe model but we have not seen one with a personality yet and there should be one out there?

For the last series i think the prize fund should start at nothing.. Then they need to start earning it!

The thing is though is that from the 15 minutes you do get you can earn a fair bit from a few press interviews and such and more if you're a girl (nuts and Glamour route). If you handle yourself right then the real prize is the money from the press stuff.

There should be a bigger prize fund, no question. Too many housemates these days who go in and think they don't even have to try and entertain the public, because they will be making double the amount of money from mag deals anyway.

Those days have long gone. One or two HMs may make tens of thousands, but most are lucky to be offered deals in the hundreds, rather than thousands.
