Corrie's Sue Cleaver (Eileen) Charged With Drink Driving

Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver has been charged with drink-driving, police said.

The actress, who plays Eileen Grimshaw, was stopped by officers in Northenden, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of Monday morning.

The 46-year-old was driving a Land Rover Freelander when she was pulled over less than a mile from her home.

She was breathalysed and charged with driving with excess alcohol, police said.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "A woman has been charged after officers stopped a Land Rover Freelander on Palatine Road, Northenden, shortly after 12.40am on Monday 29 March 2010.

"Susan Cleaver, of The Circuit, Didsbury, was charged with driving with excess alcohol and is due to appear at Manchester City Magistrates' Court on 14 April 2010."

The actress, who joined the Street in 2000, plays a taxi controller and the mother of Jason and Todd Grimshaw.

She will appear in court two days before actor Ryan Thomas, who plays her son Jason, is due before magistrates for motoring offences

I hope this doesnt affect her part on the street, I really like Eileen.

I like Eileen too, but I hope Sue is punished, she could have killed someone

But it doesnt say how much over the limit she was, she doesnt seem like the sort of person who would knowingly drive over the limit.

Twice the legal limit
