LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Big Brother babe Vanessa Layton-McIntosh has signed a six-figure record deal fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming a singer, it emerged today.

The 20-year-old south Londoner, who featured in the recent series Big Brother Six, said she was "over the moon" with the recording contract with CBM Records. She hopes to release her first single in October.
Vanessa, from Croydon, was evicted after seven weeks in the Big Brother house this summer.

Now she is writing her own music and is confident of topping the charts.

Speaking from a recording studio in Streatham, south London, Vanessa said: "I would describe my style as R and B with a more commercial slant - along the lines of Destiny's Child and Javine.

"I want to get a chart hit and be in the Top 10. I want to sing on Top Of The Pops - that has always been a dream of mine."

Vanessa, who was working as a shop assistant before auditioning for Big Brother, said she had been spotted by record producer Charles Bailey during her stint in the house.

She said: "He saw me dancing and performing on Big Brother so he knew I had the moves, but he didn't know if I could sing. He asked me to come down to his studio and sing a few songs.

"I was amazed when he said I was good. I never knew I could sing. Now I realise I actually have a good voice. I am so grateful I have been given a chance to do this."

Vanessa, who lives at home with her family in Croydon, is the second housemate from Big Brother to score a recording deal.

She added: "Kinga has been in the recording studio so we have been talking a lot about the business together. Science and Lesley desperately wanted to get into the business, but it never happened.
"I never thought when I auditioned for Big Brother that I would end up with a record deal. I guess this has happened to me for a reason. I am so excited. I'm over the moon."

I really can't see Vanessa being 'the next big thing', but who knows? Although there's more than a hint of the old Stock, Aitken & Waterman school of thought here, at least she didn't spend her time in the house trying to promote herself as a vocalist. Maybe she does have talent? After all, everyone is good at something, so perhaps she can add singing to eating and sleeping on her CV?

Does anyone know if any other hm's, other than Craig (BB1) and Nadia (BB5) has had a 'hit' record, by the way? I just Googled Craig - he signed a FIVE album deal with WEA Records, but At This Time Of Year peaked at number 14 in December 2000. Did anyone buy it? :laugh:

Mind you she is pretty "big" already, well all that food has to go somewhere!:laugh:

And well as for her comparing herself to DC and Javine, we'll have to just wait and see. Somehow I don't see her getting very far.

I was quite surprised that she had got a record deal - it seems to have come out of the blue, unlike in the case of Lesley and Kinga, who both made no secret of the fact that they would like to be singers.

It's ridiculous! :shocked:

There is NO WAY she'll get to #1, not even CLOSE to the top 10 even... :bored:

What I don't get is, when Vanessa was evicted she got booed alot, the public obviously doesn't like you so why do you think they'll buy your CD? :puzzled:

I know she seemed to eat a lot, but I don't think she's overweight in the slightest....GOD!!

I didn't really like her but I hope this is true and she does well because her experience of the big brother house must have bothered her a lot. Although I am confused as to why she didn't know she could sing :puzzled:

I'm very bitter on hearing Science hasn't got a deal :bawling:
