Not really! Given the cost, red tape and time involved in registering a death, post mortem examination, release of the body, casket selection and shipping to Germany. Licencing for the import of a body, examination of the body on arrival etc (potentially including another full post mortem with toxicology before release for burial).

Cheaper and easier to bundle the car into a car get to the airport buy standby tickets and fly then discover the death either on landing or shortly thereafter in Germany. Which is probably where the deceased wanted to be laid to rest.

Probably would have been less chance of discovery if they had drove via the Chunnel or ferry.

When put like that - it makes a certain amount of sense - but still is a weird thing to do - and isn't really very respectful to the deceased!

I dont know, I think it may just have been a desperate measure by people who simply wanted to show their respects to the deceased by complying with the last wishes of the deceased. Besides panic and mourning tend to make people act in irrational ways.

They may not have been able to afford to ship the body to Germany. There is also the possibility the deceased may not qualify for a funeral payment or bereavement grant in the UK but may qualify for one over there.
