The offices of Viacom, the parent company of South Park's Comedy Central network, may have been the target of the New York Times Square car bomb, reports have suggested.

On Saturday evening a car containing propane gas cylinders, fireworks and petrol was found parked on 45th Street and Broadway, close to Viacom's offices. The Sun reports that the media conglomerate may have been the intended target of the attack.

A recent episode of South Park featured the prophet Muhammad as a member of the Super Friends, in his third appearance in the series. After threatening messages were made on the internet the network decided to censor the show, putting a black rectangle over the character. Some Muslims believe that physical representations of Muhammad are deeply blasphemous and reportedly took offence at the use of the character.

Muhammad was last depicted in the show in the two-part episode 'Cartoon Wars', shortly after the Danish cartoons controversy.
