TiBB Radio / Radiotion

So, I recall a thread being made last week about the possibility of (re)creating "TiBB Radio".

So, I made a radio. Of course, I didn't put TiBB into the domain or anything because making it a TiBB Radio was really only an idea, I wanted to make a radio nontheless. But, I would like it to involve TiBB. I would be prepared to link TiBB on the site, and what not. The domain is set up, so is the radio server. All we really need is you.

I'm looking for mixed genre DJs, having a Radio focusing on one main genre is boring. I know a few people are interested, and my only request regarding genres would be that if the music you intended to play was heavy, then I would prefer it if you DJed during the night, and by that I mean anytime after 9/10pm really. I think it makes more sense that way.

Only a few requirements to DJ, really. You need music. I'd like it if you had a microphone, but if you're too shy then don't worry about using a microphone, you can tell when someone is uncomfortable talking on mic, because they get all giggly and mumble a lot and it makes whoever is listening think "Gosh, just play the next song already".

The bigger your music database, the better. I think 800-1000+ songs is a fair minimum because you'll end up repeating a lot of songs and it gets a bit boring. The fun thing is about online Radio is that the music doesn't have to be mainstream and new, you can play pretty much anything.

Don't know how to broadcast? I don't mind teaching people how to use SAM, but if I'm honest, I can't be bothered with explaining how to use Winamp, I prefer SAM because it does most of the stuff for you. Winamp is a lot more manual, but there's plenty of guides online on how to use Winamp online. There is also VirtualDJ, but you have to do everything on there completely by yourself and I find it a bit tedious as you have to focus on it a lot. Experience isn't needed, everyone's gotta start off somewhere.

Internet connection is important too, ideally, I'd like you to be able to stream at 128 kb/s, but if that's too high then please nothing below 64 kb/s. The quality starts to get horrible and the delay HUGE. Goto www.speedtest.net and see if your internet is above 1 mb... If not, then I don't really think your internet can handle streaming.

If you want to simply host a talk show or something like that and know how to hook Skype up to SAM, that's fine too, just let me know that you want to only talk on air.

Sorry if that seems like a bit much, but it's not really.
- 1000+ songs and preferably a microphone, but not necessary.
- Need to download a broadcasting program.
- Need a fair internet connection.

If you're interested, reply to this thread, PM me or whatever.

Feel free to ask me anything else you might wanna know.

How Gay.

Firewire 04-05-2010 04:08 PM

I'd like to do it!

Enid 04-05-2010 04:38 PM

I expressed my interest last night in being part of this. I don't have a mic (at least not on my main PC) but I do have a sh!t load of music, all a wide range of genres and styles.

I downloaded SAM. So far I only understand how to queue tracks up. Everything else is foreign to me.

Lewis. 04-05-2010 06:27 PM

I'd love to get involved!

Callum 04-05-2010 11:34 PM

This has been done before.

Maia 04-05-2010 11:39 PM

I'd be interested in doing this!

Stu 04-05-2010 11:40 PM

I have about 16,000 songs alright, but that begs the question why I would want to listen to other people play their songs.

I'm not into the whole centralized power thing either, with everyone falling under certain rules and whatnot. Solo members doing their own thing with TiBB talkshows and whatnot sounds like a riot though. A unified TiBB radio is a recepie for disaster though.

It has not been done before! They made a few useless youtube videos.
This is actual DJing, hosted on a purpose made domain, live radio!

Beastie 04-05-2010 11:49 PM

Stu should be the host!

That's what TiBB Radio was going to be too.

Was going to be being the operative phrase. It never worked out because these things never do.

If members wanted to go ahead and do their own shows independently, heck, throw it up on YouTube even, it would be much easier.

Got an audio in line? Got Hypercam? Congratulations, you got TiBB Watch, live on YouTube every week.

Much easier. Much more entertaining. Nobody is going to listen to Radio Jonathan for more than twenty minutes before it all gets a bit old.

You're right, and plus with a scenario like that the quality of the show would be raised because like you said, if it's broadcast live it'll be an absolute disaster. At least with a half hour or 20 mins show people can give it some thought and actually script the whole thing out, rather than the inevitable winging that would go on during a 24 hour broadcast.
