Leaders Debates - Yay or Nay?

Should the three leader debates be a permanent fixture?

On the plus they give us an unbiased view, they got young people interested in politics and it gave the elections a lot more attention

Yes.

Jack_ 07-05-2010 06:57 PM

Absolutely.

I guess they were alright, but I don't like the format of them. 1 minute of uninterrupted speech isn't a debate, it's an opportunity for a few audience-friendly soundbites.

True, but they could improve over the years, this was the first time we had the debates, I think it was a great first step on bringing the electoral process into the 21st Century

As far as getting the public to know a bit about who theyre voting for and a basic outline of their policies - yes. But overall, you can't tell much from them..especially when you have Gordy and Cameron just squabbling between themselves. It wasn't hard for Clegg to look like a saint really

Defiantly, it's made me really take a interest in politics & gave me a better understanding of what each party stand for, for the first time i stayed up until 5 in the morning watching election.

Yes but One 3 Hour Edition with a 10mins break in the middle
And Shown on all Channels that want it.
And Dermot asking the Questions Next time.
(as he did the BBC3 ones good)

The Exit poll proved Sky/ITV/BBC
can work as one on this.

Clegg Lost Seats
so he was Hype.

Yes they are a good thing for British politics. Of course there is work to be done to make them perfect but they should definatly be kept.
The worst thing about them for me was the way the news channels (ITV and Sky) decided to try and push a certain opinion onto the people of how it went straight after, the best example being the sky news poll and headlines saying Cameron had won after the first debate but then later changed their tune when every other broadcaster said Clegg had won. Which in turn could sway how an ordinary person, who didn't really know about politics, thought.
