The Death of TiBB ?

I have only been a member of this site for a few months, but it has come to my attention that the site has gone downhill in the last few weeks.

There used to be a lot of friendly banter, discussions and even the odd argument. However, most of this was in legible intelligent language which we could all understand. Lately it has stooped to a level where only imbeciles will be able to participate in the discussions.

There is an abundance of text language used. Also some of the images/language used is unsuitable content for a site which welcomes people of all ages.

There is a tendency to go off-topic. While I can appreciate that this will happen on occasion, lately it has been happening more often than not.

There is little or no respect for other users on the forums to express their individual opinions. It seems that when someone disagrees with someone else, the done thing is to post a reply in offensive language and all in CAPS. It’s not exactly welcoming for new users or existing ones for that matter.

Some of the threads have been turned into private dating threads. While I have no problem with people having private conversations with each other, they could simply make a thread specifically for that purpose, or do it on IM or U2U. If they must declare their undying love to each other, I would prefer it if they wouldn’t do it in the middle of a thread, thereby disrupting a perfectly sensible discussion.

I have spoken to other members and some are uncomfortable posting here now, because they feel the site has gone downhill. I would agree.

I urge anyone who agrees to post a response in support of this complaint.

I strongly agree with Stropz on this one.... I have been put off posting and visiting the site recently. When I joined it was a lively forum where everyone opinions mattered. But I have felt very uncomfortable with the tone of the forum of late.

Dan_ 19-09-2005 08:34 PM

I love this place and most of the members here but lately I have been just totally skipping some of these threads that go off-topic and end in complete drivel.

It seems to me quite a few members have left this place of late too and I can't say that I am suprised.

Let's get thing back to normal please!

BigSister 19-09-2005 08:39 PM

I agree with Stropz as some of the posts dont make much sense and i have only posted in most of the posts that i visit i.e football, what have you watched on TV thread etc etc

skelo4eva 19-09-2005 08:40 PM

Yeah i agree but the main reason some of the people arent here anymore is because big bro has finished but i agree with you Stropz!!

Nicola 19-09-2005 08:49 PM

I'm relatively new to this board and still finding my feet on here, so I'm feeling lost among people who already have established friendships and find threads like "Who do you like?" upsetting at times, knowing that because people don't know me very well on here, nobody's likely to mention me and I'm feeling really alone and unloved on here. I don't have a problem with any of the discussions or anything otherwise, my main issues are feeling excluded amidst what you refer to as "private dating threads" cos I always feel left out when it comes to things like that.

Lance 19-09-2005 08:50 PM

Yeah I have said this to people already.

There are quite a few members who seem to be on a post count mission or be member of the day like every day and break some TiBB records! It just bugs me to have to read through a few pages of utter meaningless nonsense while in the middle of a good thread.

I agree with Stropz that this place has like turned into a dating agency for some members. It's nothing short of pathetic to subject people to posts like "I want to search through your underwear drawer..." I think that's just a bit unacceptable on a public forum, and well there's worse than that.

Hopefully t'will all be sorted.:spin:

~Kizwiz~ 19-09-2005 08:51 PM

Please dont fret pet.... we love you Nicola xxx

BigSister 19-09-2005 08:53 PM

yeah Nicola I always put you on my list:bigsmile:

lily. 19-09-2005 08:55 PM

Oddly enough Nicola, you have been here longer than me, but I feel quite well established amongst some of the members. Probably on account of me being a loudmouth opinionated gobsh!te. However, the purpose of forums isn't really 1-2-1 conversations, or limited restricted cliques.

Or at least, that's not how it should be. That is the purpose of this complaint. If this gets addressed, then the forum will be more enjoyable for the existing members and will be more enticing for new members.

And Lance, I agree with what you said about the "underwear drawer". Without pointing any fingers, it seems that some members are unable to behave appropriately in a public forum, therefore shouldn't post at all.

Nicola 19-09-2005 08:55 PM

Aaaw, thanks - I'm sat here crying thinking nobody really loves me. It's not just on here I feel like that, think it's just a stage I'm going through at the moment.

lily. 19-09-2005 08:57 PM

nic, go back into the passing ships thread hon..so we can chat.

Nicola 19-09-2005 09:00 PM

Just posted in there now! I know a lot of people are going to think I'm seeking attention by some of my posts (I often think that's what causes problems for me) but I'm not. I've had problems with people thinking that of me in the past.

James 19-09-2005 09:44 PM

I contacted a forum member before about making unintelligable and pointless posts. I'll have another go at making them change.

One thing that's annoyed me before is people who go on 'post count missions' because that inevitably leads to a lot of threads being spammed with pointless contributions.

I was considering getting rid of the 'member of the day' stat. Not that the person who makes the most posts in one day is really the best member of the day anyway.

Mike 19-09-2005 10:10 PM

I still love this place but its changed BIG time in the last year or so, you would get the odd person warned for using text speech or making pointless posts but over the past 4 months especially when BB was on there was alot more people warned, it gets really annoying when theres a discussion going on in one topic and then someone comes along and completely changes the subject, maybe the member of the day stat should be taken away because ive noticed quite a few people posting just so they can be member of the day and to be honest its not exactly a 'cool' thing really. Its just a shame that alot of members who said they would continue posting havent because they feel uncomfortable.

Romantic Old Bird 20-09-2005 07:50 AM

Well, I've been around on here since the beginning and I have seen the site go through quite a few phases - including being hacked and taken down by persons with malicious intent.

The odd members who use threads as chatrooms tend to pass, whereas the stalwarts continue. In a few more weeks it will be down to them again I'm sure.

I still can't go more than a day or two without checking the site.

However, the thread ramblings are off-putting and it's a good point.

Another thing which I feel puts people off posting is when they fear their opinions will be jumped on in incredibly strong and over the top terms by other members.

If people are told that they are either idiots or patronising for simply voicing their opinions, they are going to be put off.

It would be nice if we can get back to friendly, leg-pulling posts, using plenty of :xyxwave::flower::colour: to soften the tone.

A sense of humour isn't obligatory, but it helps!:spin2:

Fangz 20-09-2005 09:19 AM

I agree with this post in general, but I'm afraid that I'm guilty of going wildly off-topic.
I think the post-quality of the site has gone down-hill by quite a bit.

Sunny_01 20-09-2005 09:25 AM

I have to say I agree with most of what is being said. We do try to keep on top of things but it becomes really hard when people are darting from one thread to another saying "i love you"

I agree with ROB people do become unsure of posting when they think that they will get jumped on for simply having an opinion. Just because people have different opinions doesnt make them wrong!

I am also a little tired ( while I am having a moan ) of people's spelling being discussed, that to be honest shows a lack of respect for others. Not everyone is over the top about spelling and grammer and as long as posts can be understood that is all that matters.

I have contacted a couple of members before this thread was even posted and asked about keeping things to the minimum. Hopefully things will settle soon.
:dog:

Fangz 20-09-2005 09:33 AM

It is a bit mean to start nagging people about their spelling, but some posts are completely incomprehensible.

Dan_ 20-09-2005 10:07 AM

Yer, I don't mind if people spell words wrong here and there but some of it really is too hard to understand.

Fangz 20-09-2005 10:40 AM

I miss having playful banter. I enjoy a bit of friendly teasing. :(

Sunny_01 20-09-2005 10:50 AM

I miss the banter as well - I dont mean the spelling that we can not read if you know what I mean. I totally agree some posts you just cant read at all!!

Dan_ 20-09-2005 11:10 AM

There has been some good banter the past few days but a lot of the threads got taken over with drivel.

Ruth 20-09-2005 01:03 PM

Have to agree with the whole chatting each other up thing; it's really annoying and rude to other people who are trying to actually post about the original subject of the thread:mad: Surely if people want to get sloppy, they can use u2u?

I also don't like the fact that some people are derided just for having different opinions to others on here - there's nothing wrong with disagreeing - after all, as I've said many times, what a boring forum it would be if we all agreed on everything, but some people (thankfully, it is a small minority) get really abusive to people who dare to disagree with them.

The other thing that really bugs me is text speak, which puts me off even reading a post usually, and posts that make no sense whatsoever. And the use of smilies only - what's that about??? I think it was Fangz who said on another thread that if people want to get their post count up, there are plenty of threads in the chat and games section where they can do that, and I agree - there are threads such as countdown and word association where people can bump up their post numbers.

I would add that most people on here are great and I enjoy chatting with them - it's only a small minority who cause the problems.
