Favourite Quotes Thread (Part 2)

''Truth is, everybody is going to hurt you; you just gotta find the ones worth suffering for.'' - Bob Marley

BOOSH 28-05-2010 02:59 PM

The ones worth being let down for.

It makes perfect sense.

This could be the new quote thread.

I like this one: "Listen to your heart, not the voices in your head"

Shaun 28-05-2010 03:12 PM

It makes sense it's just very melodramatic and blah.

Photon 28-05-2010 03:12 PM

No, it doesn't make sense. It sounds great for cliché quotes and romantic comedy plots, but relationships aren't supposed to be about suffering and hardship in general. I have no idea where people got this idea that sticking through misery is the height of romance.

lily. 28-05-2010 03:13 PM

It's about the good outweighing the bad.

If you expect every relationship in your life to be straight forward and free of drama/hurt, then you are in for a big shock.

Yeah.. truth is.. "everybody is going to hurt you". Seems a bit cynical.. yes! Sometimes we need to learn to be strong. Train our brains to be positive if we are left all alone.

Exactly.

The quote makes perfect sense.

Jack_ 28-05-2010 03:21 PM

It baffles me how people can't understand the quote. Think people, think. And register it.

Twilight 28-05-2010 03:22 PM

How can people not understand it LOL

Photon 28-05-2010 03:23 PM

I just think the whole idea of gauging the worth of a relationship on how willing you are to suffer through the bad is just absurdly melodramatic and juvenile.

Also, Bob Marley is boring. Don't pat yourselves on the back, this isn't about not getting what some stoned dude thought about love. I understand what he is trying to say and I think it is profoundly moronic.

Stacey. 28-05-2010 03:24 PM

i still don't understand :|

Can't you read?

lily. 28-05-2010 03:24 PM

It's not juvenile in the slightest.

It's immature to think otherwise. We don't live in happyville.

Who said we did? These are some compelling arguments, I must say.

I am going to further clarify that I agree with the part that everyone is going to hurt you. This is true and Bob Marley deserves no praise for essentially pointing out the sky is blue. The latter part of that quote about suffering? That is just dumb. I've been hurt and hurt countless people. A person is not worth any suffering on my part, ever. I'm sorry, but I've seen way too many physically and/or emotionally abusive relationships hinging themselves on the whole idea of being worth suffering through. What a ridiculous idea.

That's not what the quote is saying, though. Where does it say that relationships should be judged soley on suffering? You seem to be taking it far too litteraly and applying it to every relationship in existence. It's just a quote.

Bob's the man.

You really are taking this way too seriously. Or yourself. I'm not sure which.

He's not saying we should stay with the person who kicks the sh*t out of us.

He's not saying we should stay with the person who makes us miserable.

He's saying that everyone hurts us, in some way... (which you agree with) .. and that we have to decide who is worth having in our lives.

We can't simply discard everyone who hurts us or we would be alone. We have to decide who to keep and who to discard based on how much they make us suffer (i.e hurt us), weighed up against how much they give in terms of love, friendship, support, etc.
