Watch BB11? Nah - I Resent Fame-Seekers!
 

Every time I'm in the UK or just chatting with Brits and the conversation turns to Big Brother I hear it:
"Aw, they are just a bunch of nobodies seeking fame!"
"Phtt.. who wants to watch attention-seekers who think they're famous?"
"Nah, I hate those wannabe 'famous' types who just want to.."


Every country seems to have a national twist on this. Aussies have the 'Tall Poppy' syndrome where anyone getting a little too much fame better get cut down to size.
Canada is just as bad with its peculiar 'national yawn' if they believe any one of them is getting too popular.
You can even say Americans have a 'opposite problem' where they go mad lavishing celebrity upon one of their own if they so much as appear on television for 2 seconds.

Brits are funny with this one. We have a real sore spot with this. For some reason we especially resent fame-seekers!
Oh something about it just.... grrr... the contempt just boils!

Of course BB well exploits this and loves nothing more than to find the audience people like 'Mario and Lisa' and the long list of 'wannabe stars' and the more hopeless and fame-whoring the more infuriated Brits will watch and BOO and pay to evict!

But what is this peculiar thing with hating fame-seekers so much?
Why is that so bad anyways?
Why do we resent that with a special kind of contempt seemingly reserved just for them?

Is this really why people won't watch BB11.. or is it why they WILL watch BB11?

its amazing how many people will slag off big brother, say how crap they think it is and that they would never watch it, but I bet most of them watch it anyway

Fair do's to the people who want a bit of fame and money, I've nothing against them.. it's the ones that reek of desperation that get to me.

I remember last season I asked a friend if she would watch Launch Night. She says "oh no.. stupid nobodies who just want to get attention and get famous",
yet,
on Launch Night she was absolutely infatuated with any new HM who she deemed a 'fame seeker wannabe' and could not be pulled away from the screen as she went on identifying which fame-seekers she hated the most!
Then she would watch every episode determined to see them 'get taken down a notch' and desperately hoping to see their evictions.

What makes me laugh is when BB editors and Davina will deliberately present a new HM as the 'fame seeker' and wow that crowd GOES MAD in boos and jeers lol!

People tell me they aren't watching, especially dad and then they tell me whats annoying them and talk about what is going on! i think alot of people who say they don't watch do dip in occationally, obviously they don't watch constantly otherwise the ratings would be up

It's not jealousy. People should be celebrated and respected for doing something respectable and for a good cause, saving lives, helping the needy, etc. Not dancing around on Big Brother with their boobs out.

I see what you are saying but there is definitely something to a kind of person who will quickly and vehemently lash out at BB Housemates as all a bunch of no-good fame *****s.
I really do believe a lot of it is a sort of jealousy reaction. Secretly they wish they were shocking viewers with their tits-out and getting magazine deals.

What I'd say is that many (maybe a minority) of BB Housemates are not fame-seekers, tit flashers or want any sort of deals, agents or attention. I think many go in as a challenge, for fun, for a unique experience or even because they feel they can 'represent' a locality or demographic.

Yes, unfortunately many (if not most) now seem to be wannabe starlets and models and celebs.

I enjoy watching it but its pointless trash really. And most of the HMs are desperate wannabes with no talent whatsoever. Just a desire for attention.

So you can realise it for being trash but still enjoy it. I just love trashy shows. Shoot me.
