BB11 Launch Night : Please Read!

Hi all.

Just a couple of things about launch night tonight.

As a lot of you have not been on TiBB on a launch night before, things can get pretty hectic. During the ad breaks of tonight's show, and especially just after the show ends the traffic will start getting high and putting pressure on the server. Last time for Celebrity Big Brother we had 3500 people all come on at once after the end of the show. It's unpredictable how many are going to come online tonight, but the site may slow down a bit. (It also might not!)

You may have noticed the last couple of days the site has been slow in the evenings. This wasn't due to the heavy traffic as only 500 or so people were online. It was James and I running some errands on the server that pushed the serverload high. We have a few things in place incase the website starts to run slow.

1. Avatars and signatures might be turned off, so don't worry if they disappear it should only be for tonight.

2. We have just made it so Guests cannot search the forum, however they can still browse. If the site starts to go slow we will turn guests off meaning they will have to register to use the forum. This is to make sure that registered members get the most of the serverload available.

3. We might turn off the "Whos online" section. I know lots of you like to see how many are on, but that process of searching is quite intensive on the server, and turning it off might help things.

4. As a last resort if things get really bad, then we will turn Searching off for members. This means you won't be able to search the forum, or look at today's posts, but you can still browse all the forums and post as normal.

If all these resorts fail it's always possible the site might crash. If this happens, please just wait for a few minutes before retrying. James or I will have to reboot the server if it crashes, and if everyone is spamming refresh every second it just adds unnecessary pressure and will result in a longer time coming back.

Sometime this evening the default theme will change from blue to a fuschia theme. You can always change this if you don't like it by scrolling to the very bottom left of the page and selecting a new theme. The new theme has some spaces for advertising slots which we are looking to fill.

Since it's a busy night for mods and admin, we are likely to be less tolerant than usual, so please try and behave and adhere to the forum rules wherever possible, we don't want to have to ban people on launch night

We are hoping everything will run smoothly, and we will try and keep you updated as much as possible on how things are running. If you have any questions regarding tonight, then please fire them in this thread.

Thanks Mark, I think the making guests unable to view would help a lot!

Fingers crossed we don't crash and burn
