Of Course we do
but you can not just walk out leaving a Mess
That is the Recent History of the Pathetic Yanks.

At Least we have a Timetable.

Stinking New Labour Refused to do that.

Shaun 25-06-2010 04:47 PM

It's rather amusing really - if he just left now, everyone would be moaning about how much of a mess we've left it in. But we stay there, and there's this alien notion that, sometimes, soldiers die in battle.

What the Hell do you expect? The Taliban aren't going to sit in a circle and make daisychains with the allies; they have guns. Very big guns. People are going to die. *throws hands up in the air and walks away*

arista 25-06-2010 04:49 PM

Shaun we stay there due to America.

This is all a Blair/Brown/Bush
Feck Up.

Well said! we cant just pull out of Afghanistan after the damage we caused going there

Nemo123 25-06-2010 04:56 PM

It's a terrible indictment of the media that we (the public) don't know why the soldiers are there.

Yes a Utter New Labour Feck Up.

GiRTh 25-06-2010 05:02 PM

Its going to take 5 years because the war has become very tactical. The Taliban are using different weapons and strategies than first anticipated.

We cant just blame the Yanks for this, Tony Blair was at least complicit in this illegal war. There's the September dossier, the death of Dr David Kelly, as well as all the troops killed in the line of duty. Blair has blood on hands as well a lot of questions to answer. Some are for the war in Iraq but most people consider them to be one and the same

Its good that Cameron has made this a priority but the way we got into this war has to be the subject a thorough independent investigation.

arista 25-06-2010 05:06 PM

Yes Blair is a War Criminal.

Nemo123 25-06-2010 05:12 PM

I still think the media are afraid to tell the whole story. I've read the real reason for the war is that the Taliban won't do business with the oil companies. So the Taliban has to be replaced with a regime that will.

Nemo123 25-06-2010 05:27 PM

The second option is to build a pipeline south from Central Asia to the Indian Ocean. One obvious route south would cross Iran, but this is foreclosed for American companies because of U.S. sanctions legislation. The only other possible route is across Afghanistan, which has of course its own unique challenges. The country has been involved in bitter warfare for almost two decades, and is still divided by civil war. From the outset, we have made it clear that construction of the pipeline we have proposed across Afghanistan could not begin until a recognized government is in place that has the confidence of governments, lenders, and our company.

Statement by Unocal to American congress, Feb 12 1998.

That's why 9/11, by 15 Saudis, turned into an invasion of Afghanistan. Strecth the truth a bit.

Agreed......Cameron is simply setting himself up as the good guy for the next election......Which will probably be well before the five years......

A prime minister worth a pinch of salt or with any sense of morality and justice would consider five years as completely unacceptable......Just imagine the number of casualities over that period......Cameron is a hypoctritical swine......

BB_Eye 29-06-2010 06:02 PM

Cameron has gone back on his word plenty of times already.

I don't see this happening.

Point being they shouldn't be dying for someone else's bloody war! They should never have been sent there in the first place - most people are now in agreement on that - and the soldiers need to come home and back to safety! They have all done their bit!

Angus 06-07-2010 08:06 PM

Unfortunately, having now poked our noses into their country and interfered with their politics and culture, we can't just withdraw overnight, since there would be absolute mayhem (of our making) being wreaked on innocent Afghans by the Taliban and other insurgents. It is in the interests of future stability in the Middle East to make sure that the radicals and terrorists do not gain control of Afghanistan since this would be extremely dangerous for the West. We created the mess, so we have to clean it up before we leave, that's the problem and the reason for a five year time line.
