Question about lesbian housemates

Right, a common criticism BB gets is about social gorups e.g. black women, gay men, and in the past there was concerns about Irish, Scottish and Welsh HMs

What's everyone's views on lesbian HMs? Has BB done well to represent them? Has it done more damage than good?

Anna from BB1 is still one of my faves but every other lesbian HM I can think of has been anxious and aggressive. Kitten BB5, Tracey BB8, Lisa BB10, Sov CBB and ofcourse SHABBY!!!

I think if they show anything it is that it is the individual not the social group or whatever.

Mean Anna lovely, lisa and shabby wouldn't want to spend 5 mins with them.

I'd like to think it's the individuals as well because as I said Anna did really well coming second, and I'm sure Sov's got her own following lol, but but it makes you wonder if the other lesbian HMs, the producers, and the casting directors have actually made an impact for lesbians as a social group.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Ermmm, Isn't the Jordan lookalike in this series a lesbian ? She seems Ok - relatively stable (So far !)

Stacey. 30-06-2010 10:25 PM

It shouldn't make any difference whether they're lesbian or not..

Usually you hear about black women being portrayed negatively, or gay men as excessively camp and not representational of real life but you don't hear much about how the lesbians are in BB

Anna was lovely ,but the others have done nothing to make me want to turn ,not one of them were happy with themselves

Probably the worst represented minority on BB. Gay men on the other hand... the ones that weren't likeable were at least entertaining. Well... except Charlie who had hardly any redeeming qualities.

There are a disproportionate amount of LGBT housemates.
There shouldn't be Non-British housemates.

Corin is lovely. Personally, I see all of them as housemates dont give a monkeys about there sexuality. I dont care cos Im not having sex with them. Do BB really go out with a shopping list of this years housemates " Right we better get a nasty Lesbian in there just to wind the Lesbian community up"?

I don't think BB has represented any social group 'well', but I also don't think thats the point of it nor it's responsibility.

It has no social agenda except light entertainment, lets not try and impose one on it.

Good points, people.

On the Ch4 website it states; "Channel 4's remit is to innovate and appeal to everyone - different cultures, nationalities, religious persuasions, physical and mental abilities, sexual orientation, races and ages. You see this everyday through the scope of films, documentaries, dramas and entertainment programmes we transmit on air."

Yet I agree when you say you don't think BB has represented any social group 'well'. I'd like to think the producers don't have an agenda and then shortlist HMs as "the token bitchy black woman", "the camp as christmas gay guy" or "the aggressive lesbian" but I do find the lesbian HMs the least well represented and frankly quite appalling as individual characters
