More whitewash... where was Steve's raging in all that?

Or even his apology in the DR for his behaviour? Didnt fit their agenda of him as 'nice guy war hero' I guess.

BB really thinks the people watching their show are morons.

pixee 05-07-2010 08:07 PM

I don't like his attitude, in a diverse age group if you are older you will feel the others have immaturity no need to be so superior.

I thought Nathan came across badly as did Ife who has now been found at least.

As for Steve I'm quite disappointed if there was more that wasn't shown because we have seen so very little. We can debate Ben back and forth but we see enough to form an opinion, but we see so little of Steve and what I saw tonight I didn't like.

bansheewails 05-07-2010 08:08 PM

As I said in an earlier post, Steve is a bit like going on an 18-30's holiday with your dad.

toothpick 05-07-2010 08:09 PM

steve shouldnt be there...deep down he knows the big war hero act will only spread so thin....

stonedape 05-07-2010 08:10 PM

They can't just go 0 to 60 with every under the radar character this season, and I don't really think showing him getting angry would change opinions on him being a nice/heroic guy. If anything, editors have been blackballing Steve by not showing a peep from him, good or bad, because they know he's going to finals anyway.

fingers 05-07-2010 08:11 PM

He absolutely lost his studied cool image in the LF Ranting and cussing like a 12 year old. He realised that he had blown his cover when he started telling all and sundry that he was going to the DR to apologise to BB.

discotheque 05-07-2010 08:12 PM

Where was Nathan pacing round doing his salt of the earth scally impression and generally acting like a threatening moron ?

You actually didnt see 99% of what he said in that argument. Corin's full rage was cut down, they only showed what the absolutely needed to to set the scene, but his was just ignored entirely.

There was a very good reason he thought he needed to apologise for what he had said.

The thing is you can't complain about Steve not being shown as his worst and then defend the whitewash edit in favour of Ben. :(

We only got a mere hint of that but i've seen enough of Nathan to make my mind up about him already.

toothpick 05-07-2010 08:15 PM

So the whole friendly british soldier image he portrays is bollocks?

Exactly.

The fact that he was shown only in a positive role coaching a team in his RL hobby (for which he was given a free pass to the party) and then had this ignored shows BBs agenda for him very clearly.

No i agree. My only point on that would be we have been shown both bad and good of Ben already.

They literally can't show everything every housemate does good or bad but we have seen nothing of Steve so far so i think this is above that of not showing Ben in a bad light because we have already seen that, even though i'm a fan i wouldn't argue with anyone who dislikes him cause he has done enough to form an opinion either way.

P.S. I'm hearing elsewhere he swore and went mad apparently lol?

chuff me dizzy 05-07-2010 08:24 PM

On the cutting room floor ,hes Steve, just like Bennett ,kid gloves and cotton wool

stonedape 05-07-2010 08:24 PM

Showing Steve cursing and acting like a 12 year old @ the bedroom crew, that's ultimately going to result in more hatred for the bedroom crew, not Steve. He's a tattooed ex-soldier in the father role: people are expecting it. Just like your Ben's whitewash argument, I think half of those could be argued the other way. Would you want Steve edited as your enemy? End of the day, it's an hour show, many subtleties or whole plot points have to be cut, the ones you notice are the ones you're looking for.

Agree.

Steve went absolutely Apesh!t a\nd his language was more suitable to the barrack square than BB, he can cuss better than any of them.

I disagree.

As I have said before, I am fully aware that this is an hour show and it all can't go in, but once again I want to say that this thread is about what they choose to put in and what they are trying to achieve with that choice.

Steve showing this raging side is a massive part of who he is and could have easily been accomadated in the show. Easily.

everyone should have their bad and good sides shown, and most have. Steve is no exception (no matter who is up against in an argument). To only represent his placid calm side is a dishonest representation of who he is.

Your post just seems like just rationalisation to me. Sorry, honestly not trying to offend, I like the way you debate, but it does.

King Gizzard 05-07-2010 08:36 PM

Now it looks as if basically they werent even that pissed about it :\

I don't think Steve shows this "bad side" very often, and when he does he very quickly calms down and apologizes. If you ask me, the reason they highlighted Nathan and Ife (who were no less invisible/"whitewashed" than Steve) and not Steve was because their fights ultimately impact the storyline more. Steve's going to be friends with them all within the next hour anyways, so from an editors standpoint who cares?

Not saying you're necessarily wrong, they can certainly edit almost any person into almost any role, just saying I think there's a bit of confirmation bias going on, because there's so much that isn't shown.

toothpick 05-07-2010 08:45 PM

So the editors made the soldier look friendly when in fact he was swearing, cursing and attacking?

At the moment Steve is pretty much a shoe in for the final, after his outburst last night on LF, lots of people would view him in a different light.

It would not have taken more than 30 seconds each to show him and Corin at the height of their outbursts, though obviously for him the 30 seconds would have been mostly bleeps due to the time of the HL show.

toothpick 05-07-2010 08:49 PM

So there is growing evidence the whole friendly soldier big war hero act is bollocks from steve and he is just a violent army ape?

He was nasty with Ben when they were talking about politics and I mean nasty that was'nt shown and with the row lastnight over the bedroom being turned upside down he went crazy and that was'nt shown.
They are making him look just great and its wrong.

stonedape 05-07-2010 09:02 PM

I've swiftly and miraculously changed my mind on the subject and Steve is indeed an awful person who is very mean and gets "golden boy" treatment from the editors. Evict him early.

(but I do think if they'd shown it you'd get more "Steve showed balls tonight, good on him." than "Evict STEVE Now!")

The thing is, I don't hate Steve... he is just boring. If people started thinking like this then great, good on him. At least it would be an honest reaction to his true self.

It's just right though that all sides of him are represented for better or worse.... It's just not right when other HMs have only had bad aspects of them shown on the HL and he only has good.

No HM should be given a free ride like he is.

It's just treating the public like morons tbh.
