This made me laugh
On a site called 'Tv Tropes' which basically takes the piss out of telly.
Irish Names: The most recent UK series has an Irish housemate named 'Caoimhe'. An utterly unremarkable female name in Ireland, it is brain breakingly difficult to spell and pronounce in Britain. Cue mass bafflement. |

Some people on here are incredibly xenophobic. They will only too gladly try and take the piss out of her name but wouldn't dare do it to someone of middle-eastern culture. Not worth the effort.

I understand how some British people would have difficulty spelling Caoimhe but when it comes to pronouncing it, I don't see the big deal?
Once someone tells you how to pronounce it, whats the problem?! To be fair, I know someone with the same name but they pronounce it differently. They say : Kweeva. But honestly, neither pronounciation is difficult at all... |
