Do People Dislike Dave Purely Because He Is Religious?
 

I really dont understand why Dave has a lot of hate and not more fans, both on the forum he doesnt seem too popular and on Big Mouth and Little Brother he is always spoken about in bad light.

I think hes really likable, doesnt get nasty in drama and is very humorous and quirky. I thought to begin with he was a bit OTT and would push religion in our faces but actually hes quite the opposite and only brings it up now and then and to limits, avoiding anything that may cause offence.

So do people not like Dave because he is a strong believer in God and religion and they see that as a bad thing? :conf:

I dont dislike him because of his religious views, I respect his view, its his views on life.

I dilkike him because hes one of the main gameplayers. I noticed last week before save and replace, he was arse licking ife, corins and caomhies arses so much.

His drunk on god thing is pathetic as well, its cringe.

Hes quite boring as well tbh.

However I know a few people who know him and say hes a nice person, I suppose hes not that bad, just a twat sometimes.

I don't hate him. Well hate is a strong word that I always try to refrain from using out of context. But I don't dislike him.

After he put Rachael up in week 1 I was really pissed though cos' I know Rachael and I was dissapointed to see her go in the first week.

Since then he's grown on me though. He's very funny, lively and generally entertaining. I don't entirely trust him. He's not a conventional priest and while I do believe that he is genuinely a born again christian and devoted to his religion, I also think that he still has some of his old traits... some of the negative ones. For example I think that he does care about personal wealth more than the conventional priest. Anyway, I respect that he's a born again christian and I respect his devotion to his religion.

They just don't get the way he celebrates his faith! And because it doesn't conform with their idea of how religious people should act - they think he is weird and therefore some kind of undesirable! :sleep:

Jords, I have told you a few times I have no problems with religion. I see and respect it's value to individuals and society. This is not an anti-God (or whatver diety anyone happens to follow) thing.

I have a problem though with Dave because of his leadership of a cult that pedals a counterfeit religion and uses 'hip' language (raves, jacked up, whacked) to deliberatly target the vulnerable and draw them in.

I have an issue that he makes a profit off his church, seems to have his eye on the monetary rewards, and yet puts nothing back into his community.

I have an issue with his grooming techniques and patronising attitude to others (dismissing Andrews views because 'he is young still').

I also have an issue with the core teachings of his 'New Ecstatics' of 'don't think, don't do anything, just get drunk'. It is self serving, lazy, and self indulgent imo.

I dislike him,not hate and not purely because of the religion thing.I think he comes across as pretty arrogant,I dont find him entertaining and simply just dont find him all that likeable.

I think he is funny sometimes, but most of the time is loving everyone to their face, then he is bi*chy behind their backs! The whole drunk on the lord is rubbish!

Also i am a keeva fan and he is always horrible to her!

I dont see Dave as a gameplanner at all, I really dont think he cares about winning but just wants a really good experience. He seems the type of person who wants to live life to the full, and a guy who doesnt hold grudges - so wouldnt be igorant and ignore anybody but try and resolve the problem.

I guess the drunk on God thing is debatable, I myself find it very amusing and thought he was a right character the other night messing about in the bedroom and had the whole house laughing (HLs only showed John James mimicking Dave and them laughing :rolleyes:)

Boring? I suppose it depends on what type of housemate you like I guess.. Dont see how he can be branded boring though, theres gotta be worst offenders *cough Steve, cough Mario* :p

He's alright I suppose, just bores me a bit. Don't know why he seems to have it in for Caoimhe though.

And well. When he gets 'drunk on the lord' that's weird. Sometimes his bible talk freaks me out.

It seems most of his fierce haters hate him for that, yes.

I ll get shot down here but I also think a bit of it is cause hes not the greatest looking man at all. Would people give a **** about his religion if he looked like JJ? Most probably wouldn't

Anyone that goes on a reality show in the hopes of making a lot of money with a Christian flag wrapped around them will annoy me. As a former evangelical, he reminds me of a lot of annoying people. His hypocritical stance on homosexuality, cherry picking the bits of the Bible he likes, his affected "empathetic" tone, the ignorance and faux wisdom (like in his talk with Andrew).

I just don't like the guy, and yes it probably does mostly come down to his religious interpretation. No problem with game playing, but when someone who claims to be the moral example does it, it does ring more irritating.

And if Dave looked like JJ, I would have the exact same problems with him.

I dont think that at all, for example, he was best friends with caomhie last week, but as soon as the save and replace task ended, he pushed her a side.
Now if that is not a game plan I dont know what is.

The guy is broing, all he does is sit there while ben moans and bitches about jj or mario, and he agrees, even know i suspect he dosent care.

And mario more boring than dave.... Mario one of the most genuine housmeates in there, if you actually didnt get sucked in by the poor highlight shows (who only care about jj, josie and ben :sleep:), and saw some live feed, you would see hes more intresting than dave.

I agree dave is more intresting than Steve, Keley, Rachel and even andrew

This wasnt aimed directly at you, just on a whole people seem to want him evicted and he comes across generally disliked, and I dont get why.


And Nathan thats probably a reason as well, Big Brother does seem to attract a fair amount of shallow viewers who judge simply on looks.

it was an open question though about why people don't like him and somewhat an attempt to lump us that don't as simple 'religion haters'.

I wanted to underline that this wasnt the case and that I don't like him for very specific reasons to him and not religion in general.

Daves a nice bloke, freindly and easy going. I don't think religious views are the problem, but when he goes through one of drunk on God phases with all the fake laughter and weirdness he becomes temporarily repulsive.

I do think Dave's a nice guy, and I've defended him on several occasions because I don't think his "drunk on God" rocking with Jesus stuff is any weirder than the rituals you'll find at a mainline Catholic or Protestant church, just less familiar. And in a way I'm happy they put in someone religious, because BB seems to avoid the subject entirely.

i think in general housemates with a certain view on religion do tend to get typecast as lunatics or idiots as if their out of touch with the "real world".. in truth i think he's okay,the drunk off god thing isnt really an issue for me since i think we all get that feeling to a lesser extent (not neccesarily with god or religion though) the only thing that pisses me off is how he takes johns side in rediculing ben until the tables turned on john,then all of a sudden he was all up for backing ben and telling jj he had no social intelligence...

I dont give a **** about his religion anyway.

But if he was still as boring as he is, and looked like JJ, i still wouldnt like him.


I detested dale, who was boring but pretty.

I didn't like Dave at the start because of his religion, but after I seen how funny he could be on the show I began to like him. He has become one of my faves :)
