Favourite film score composer?
Williams? Morricone? Steiner? Zimmer? Newman? Shore? Elfman?
I think Hans Zimmer is brilliant. |
John Barry, Bernard Hermann and Ennio Morricone are probably my top three.
Jerry Goldsmith is great too for his Alien and Papillon scores. Edit: Oh, can't forget Nino Rota either. |
I love so many, but it has to be Jerry Goldsmith because his music is a great accompaniment to the film in question, rather than an ego boost for himself, if you know what I mean? When it comes to other composers, I know instantaneously that it's their music, but with Goldsmith it was always new and challenging.

Yeah, Goldsmith has a very inobtrusive style that I like. Chinatown was another great one. Shame he got all corny and schmaltzy in the 80's with Star Trek: The Motion Picture's score and ended up sounding like another John Williams. :bored:

Definatley agree with Hans Zimmer
One of my favourite scores is to Finding Nemo [Thomas Newman] I also think Michael Giacchino is great. |
Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner (listen out for motifs he repeats across films mind you :D), John Williams, Michael Giacchino (his work on Lost was great. Really like his Up soundtrack also). Oh yeah Morricone and John Barry too.
|
Carter Burwell and John Williams
|
Roy Budd's score on Get Carter is very good.
|
Danny Elfman for me, His scores are just magical.
|
James Horner for me :)
|
Hans Zimmer
For Gladiator and Pearl harbour |
Hmm yeah I'd forgotten about the Gladiator soundtrack.. That main tune with Enya is one of the best things ever.. So yeah him too please
|
I know I said that I hated the big composers because they're samey, but this was Herrmann's last score. How f£cjing good is it? Incredible. |
|
Yeah, probably the greatest ever.
